Barcelona ‘willing to let Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto leave at the end of their contracts’ with LaLiga rivals ‘interested’ in signing the pair next summer

  • Former Chelsea defender Alonso and Roberto could leave Barcelona
  • Atletico Madrid are monitoring both players ahead of possible moves
  • It's tight at the top with Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa all dropping points… so who has won Christmas so far? – It all starts

Barcelona are reportedly willing to let Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto leave the club at the end of the season.

Both players are out of contract this summer and have had limited playing time at Camp Nou so far this season.

Football Spain have reported that Barcelona plan to release the pair rather than tie them down to new contracts.

LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid are said to be keen to sign the pair, having already expressed an interest in signing Alonso during the summer transfer window.

There could be a way for Roberto to stay at the club as the 31-year-old is willing to take a pay cut despite already being the 'lowest-paid senior player in the squad'.

Alonso arrived at Camp Nou 18 months ago and despite playing regularly last season, Xavi was not as keen to play against him this time.

He has played just once since October, with just 299 minutes in seven games to his name this season.

The same can be said for Roberto, who has played just one more minute in the same number of games.

However, Roberto showed his worth with a Man of the Match display in a 3-2 win over Almeria.

He scored a brace to give Xavi's side the three points and also played the full duration in midfield.

Roberto spent his entire career at Barcelona after coming through the academy.

Alonso, meanwhile, progressed through Real Madrid's academy, but played most of his football abroad, winning the Premier League and the Champions League with Chelsea.

It comes despite Roberto bagging a brace in Barcelona's 3-2 win over Almeria last week
