Barcelona fans accidentally threw objects at their own team bus tonight ahead of their Champions League quarter-final against PSG.

The Catalan giants won last week’s first leg in Paris 3-2, with supporters arriving early to gather outside the Olympic Stadium and give their players a huge reception as they took to the pitch.

The road to Barcelona’s temporary home ground – where Camp Nou is still under redevelopment – was lit with torches, creating a remarkable atmosphere as the two teams made their way to the venue for tonight’s match.

But the smoke in the street may have caused some confusion as fans threw missiles at Barcelona’s bus while signing ‘P*** PSG’ (F*** PSG).

Fans also sang about Kylian Mbappe, who looks set to become PSG’s danger man tonight, while also chanting despicably “that Vinicius” ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Vinicius has been the victim of racist abuse during his time in Spain and broke down in tears at a press conference when discussing the subject last month.

The police had to intervene to ensure that the fans stayed behind and that the buses could enter the stadium safely.

Police brandished batons as they forced supporters back to the sidewalk to keep the road clear.

Earlier, around 2,600 PSG fans, including around 400 so-called ultras, arrived for the match and were given a police escort up Montjuic Hill to the stadium two hours before kick-off.

One arrest was made around 5pm local time after a PSG fan allegedly attacked a Barcelona supporter.

The violent scenes did not appear to slow down either side significantly, with their respective warm-ups starting on time, while kick-offs did not have to be delayed either.

Tuesday’s match promises to be a big night for Barcelona as they look to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in five years.

They reached the last four in 2019, winning the first leg 3-0 against Liverpool, before the Reds staged a stunning comeback at Anfield to secure a famous 4-0 victory and progress to the final.

Barcelona will want to banish those memories if they can reach the semi-finals again this time.

The team also wants to give manager and club legend Xavi a perfect farewell after he announced he will leave at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, PSG will be hoping to move one step closer to winning the trophy that has so far eluded them.

In 2020, they fell just short, losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the final.
