Barcelona are reportedly interested in making Simone Inzaghi their next boss in what could become a managerial arms race between Europe’s elite clubs.

Inzaghi is having a stormy season in the dugout at Inter Milan, which leads the Serie A with nine points.

Barcelona view him as a potential replacement for Xavi, who will leave at the end of the season, but they could face stiff competition from the Premier League.

That’s because Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all reportedly keen and have started gathering information on the Italian Tuttosport.

Barcelona’s longing looks at the 47-year-old have also been reported by Tuttosport, via Mundo Deportivo.

Inzaghi has held the top spot at San Siro since July 2021 and has built a reputation as one of Italy’s most astute bosses.

Last season he led the Nerazzurri to the Champions League final and has already won the Coppa Italia twice.

If he can add another Scudetto to the club’s trophy cabinet, he will have proven his worth as an elite trophy-winning manager, and that could be enough to convince his suitors he is the man for the job.

His contract with Inter runs until 2025 and he would like to stay, but would only be happy with an extension if it lasts until at least 2027.

He earns around £4.7m per season plus perks, but his employers are unlikely to match a potential Premier League offer in the region of £6.8m to £7.70m. Tuttosport.

Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is analyzing replacements for Erik ten Hag and is ‘not completely sold’ on the Dutchman.

He could be on borrowed time after a disappointing season, with United in sixth place in the Premier League and outside the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term future is also uncertain after his Chelsea side lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

While Chelsea could still qualify for Europe via the Premier League or the FA Cup, their chances of reaching the continental competition are much slimmer after the defeat to Liverpool.

There are now major doubts over whether Chelsea are willing to continue the partnership heading into the season climax and Pochettino faces a crucial run of games.

Inzaghi could eventually get his pick of top jobs. While Liverpool appear more focused on Xabi Alonso, news of Barcelona’s interest – alongside that of United and Chelsea – is a sign of how in-demand Inzaghi could be in the coming months.
