Barcelona are beaten 3-2 by Mexican side Club America in bizarre mid-season Dallas friendly after cash-strapped club were paid $5.5m to play just 30 hours after a LaLiga game

Barcelona fell victim to a huge upset after losing their bizarre mid-season friendly against Liga MX champions Club America 3-2 on Thursday evening.

The Spanish giants flew to Dallas, Texas for the friendly at the famous Cotton Bowl, straight after their 3-2 win over Almeria in Spain, which ended just 30 hours earlier.

Manager Xavi revealed earlier this week that the cash-strapped Spanish giants were paid $5.5 million to play the game.

Barcelona are now in the middle of the winter break, but it was an unnecessary and unwanted distraction amid the increasing pressure on the players and the manager.

As a result of their hectic schedule, Xavi fielded a much-changed team with six teenagers in the line-up, three of whom were making their senior debuts.

It took six minutes for Barcelona to open the scoring through 16-year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal.

He collected the ball in midfield before storming forward and beating goalkeeper Angel Malagon to take a 1-0 lead after just six minutes.

It didn't take long for Club America to take stock, however, after Colombian-born Mexican international Julian Quinones tapped a pass from American international Alejandro Zendejas into the net just six minutes later.

Barcelona were able to regain the lead when 17-year-old Marc Guiu made it 2-1 after connecting with a cross played into the penalty area by fellow academy product Hector Fort.

The favorites only took the lead at halftime and saw Quinones score the equalizer again five minutes into the second half.

Quinones won a duel against defender Pau Cubarsi in Barcelona's third before beating 19-year-old goalkeeper Ander Astralaga.

After both teams made several substitutions as the half progressed, Club America was able to take the lead in the 82nd minute thanks to a goal from striker Henry Martín, who had only checked into the match in the 62nd minute.

The Liga MX champions managed to maintain their lead throughout the final minutes of the match, despite Barcelona substituting key players such as Joao Cancelo and Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona will now not play until January 4, when they return to LaLiga action against Las Palmas.
