Barcelona and Spain legend Andres Iniesta FINALLY retires at the age of 40, six years after he moved to Japan for twilight of his incredible career

Former Barcelona and Spain star Andres Iniesta will reportedly announce his retirement from football.

The 40-year-old has been without a club since leaving UAE club Emirates Club this summer after his contract expired.

And according to Relevothe iconic midfielder will take a closer look at his career next week after teasing him in a social media post.

Iniesta, who scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands, posted a video of himself painting on a mural of himself.

And he captioned it: ‘COMING SOON. 8, 10, 24’, the day he will announce his retirement from the sport, the number eight being synonymous with his jersey number.

Iniesta scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands

Iniesta’s professional debut dates back to 2002, after coming through Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy.

He then spent an incredible 16 years in the first team for the Catalan side, making 674 appearances and contributing with 57 goals and 135 assists.

Iniesta also won 32 trophies with Barca, the second most in the club’s history after Lionel Messi, who won 35.

His trophy collection includes four Champions Leagues, nine La Liga titles, six Copa del Reys and three Club World Cups.

The veteran was one-third of one of the most iconic midfielders in history alongside Sergio Busquets and Xavi, and was part of one of the greatest sides to win the treble under Pep Guardiola in 2009 and 2011.

Iniesta also enjoyed great success, with Spain making 131 appearances for the national team and scoring 13 goals.

He was the centerpiece of the Spanish team that won the 2008 European Championship, the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.

After leaving Barcelona in 2018, Iniesta joined Japanese side Vissel Kobe and won a league title and cup in five years.

He spent last season with Emirates of the UAE, scoring five times in 20 games.
