Bankstown: Dramatic moment Tesla veers off the road and narrowly misses young woman before slamming into a power pole

New surveillance footage shows the moment a woman was nearly struck by an out-of-control Tesla, trapping four people, including a mother and her young daughter.

Power cables were laid on a nearby Subaru after the electric vehicle crashed into an electricity pole on Raymond Street in Bankstown, Sydney’s south-west, at around 10.45am on Thursday.

CCTV footage showed the car nearly hit a pedestrian in the incident, while the driver and his passenger – as well as a mother and daughter – were trapped after the crash.

A bystander told Nine News there were “wires down everywhere” and nearby businesses were closed all day while emergency services worked to restore power.

“I heard a deafening noise and a few people screaming,” the man said.

‘I went outside and saw wires everywhere.

‘There were about 10 people trying to help and breaking the window.’

The driver and his passenger, both in their 70s, were taken to Liverpool Hospital with multiple injuries but were stable on Friday.

The woman (pictured) was remarkably uninjured, but the downed power lines trapped four people in their cars until the electricity could be turned off.

Following the incident, Raymond Street between Restwell Street and West Terrace was closed.

The mother and her daughter were pulled from the water unharmed after the power was turned off.

New South Wales police say they are investigating the incident.
