Bankers at JP Morgan reportedly joked about Jeffrey Epstein’s interest in young girls, legal documents show

JP Morgan executives joked about Jeffrey Epstein’s interest in young girls when the sex offender was a client of the investment bank, according to legal documents.

U.S. Virgin Islands lawyers made the accusation in a complaint filed in New York as part of a lawsuit accusing JP Morgan of profiting from Epstein’s sex trafficking operation until 2013.

It said the disgraced financier’s activities were “so widely known at JP Morgan that senior executives joked about Epstein’s interest in young girls.” The bank has previously declared the claims unfounded.

The legal filing relates to an email sent in 2008 to Mary Erdoes, the head of the wealth and wealth management arm of JP Morgan, where Epstein was a client.

The bank said in a statement last month that Erdoes “has always acted with the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.”

JP Morgan is embroiled in two lawsuits related to his relationship with Epstein, who committed suicide in his jail cell in 2019 following his arrest on sex trafficking charges.

One is from the US Virgin Islands, where Epstein had a home, and the other was brought by an alleged victim.

The cases have been combined ahead of a trial in October.

JP Morgan is seeking to sue ex-Barclays boss Jes Staley, a former senior executive, over claims he hid details of his relationship with Epstein and covered up information about his sex trafficking operation.

He has denied any involvement in Epstein’s crimes or misrepresenting their relationship.
