A new Netflix film starring Rory Kinnear as Burnley entrepreneur Dave Fishwick has reached number one in the streaming charts this weekend.
The movie, Bank of Dave 2: Loan Ranger, is a sequel to the 2023 hit Dave’s sofathe latter based on his struggles starting a new bank and given the full Hollywood treatment – and it’s currently back in the top 10 charts.
Loan Ranger This time sees Dave taking on the financiers, which was the subject of an award-winning documentary he made for British television ten years ago.
The year the documentary was released, we hit the road with Dave for a behind-the-scenes look at what drove his popularity in the local community.
Since then, This is Money and Dave have remained friends and he is still our business doctor, and will revive the role in the coming months after a hiatus while the film was made and promoted.
In a special segment of the This is Money podcast, which you can listen to from 45 minutes and 30 seconds below, Dave explains to editor Lee Boyce in his infectious enthusiasm that despite the current financial doom and gloom, this year will be a good one.

He also reveals he has a musical in the works, gives us an update on whether there could be a Bank of Dave 3 and gives a behind-the-scenes look at the new film.
He says: ‘If a lad from Burnley with no qualifications can set up six companies and teach himself how to buy and sell decent, ethical shares, then anyone can.
‘You just have to have self-confidence to make things happen, along with common sense and decency. If you start believing in yourself, other people will too.
“Some people will watch the movie and think, if Dave can make it happen, then I can make it happen. I’m going to apply for that new job, ask for that raise, start that small business. I’m going to do what I’ve been waiting for for the past few years.
‘Let’s just make it happen. You must have the courage to follow your dreams.’
You can watch Bank of Dave 2: Loan Ranger now on Netflix, along with the original Dave’s sofa film.
In addition, a remastered version of his documentary Loan Ranger will be available on the streaming service from Wednesday.
