Baltimore Ravens cornerback Brandon Stephens is released from the hospital after falling seriously ill at the team hotel just hours before the end of Week 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals… after Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest .

The Baltimore Ravens revealed that cornerback Brandon Stephens became seriously ill at the team hotel before their game in Cincinnati on Sunday and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Stephens remained in Cincinnati for treatment, but is now back in Baltimore and feeling better, according to a team statement Wednesday.

“Baltimore Ravens CB Brandon Stephens became seriously ill at the team hotel Sunday morning and was transported to a local hospital in Cincinnati for evaluation,” the team said in a statement.

The team issued a statement Wednesday confirming that Stephens was hospitalized.

“He remained in Cincinnati for treatment and has since returned to Baltimore, where he is feeling better and in good spirits.”

Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed it was a “sickness type issue” and insisted it hadn’t scared the team away.

“It’s a health issue, a disease type issue,” coach John Harbaugh said later Wednesday. “I don’t think anybody had any real fear in terms of something really bad happening, but it was amazing, because I was ready to play, and then all of a sudden it came in the morning.”

Stephens, 25, has started four games for Baltimore this season, including the two before last weekend.

In all, the 2021 third-round pick has played in 15 games this season after starting in 11 games last year.

He has recorded 115 tackles (80 solo) and 11 pass breakups in 32 career games.

The Ravens play Cincinnati again on Sunday night in their first playoff game and Stephens’ status for the game is still unknown.

With Stephens and Marcus Peters inactive last weekend, cornerback Daryl Worley made his first start of the season in the Baltimore secondary.

Things are looking more promising for the Ravens, however, as Harbaugh told reporters that he expects Peters to be on the field this week.

Marcus Peters is expected to be available for this week’s game after missing last weekend.

Stephens’ game-day illness came just days after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest during a Monday night football game against the Bengals.

Hamlin received CPR on the field after collapsing and was rushed to the hospital following a tack on Cincinnati wide receiver Tee Higgins.

The 24-year-old was released from a hospital in Buffalo on Wednesday and headed home after a remarkable recovery.
