Baltimore police fatally shoot a man who pulls gun during questioning; detective injured

BALTIMORE– Baltimore police officers shot and killed a man who pulled a gun while questioning him in another shooting, authorities said.

A detective was shot in the chest and his protective vest likely saved his life, Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters.

Police on the city’s south side were investigating a shooting in which 15 bullets were fired at a group of people Friday evening, Worley said. No one was injured in that incident.

When police questioned a man, he stood up and pulled out a gun. Officers ordered the man to drop the gun several times before shots were fired, Worley said.

Investigators have not determined who shot first, the chief said.

The identities of the killed man and the injured officer have not yet been released.

At least three officers fired their weapons. All were placed on administrative leave while the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division investigates the shooting.
