Balthazar’s staff mocked James Corden’s attempt to explain away his omelet tantrum last night by claiming he was concerned about his wife’s “severe” egg allergy, telling DailyMail.com that the strip was simply “very, very rude’ and should not have ordered the dish .
The infamous omelet saga began on October 9 when Corden and his wife Julia dined with friends at the restaurant. Julia asked for a yolk omelette – something not on the extensive brunch menu.
When it arrived the dish had some protein in it. Corden sent it back to the kitchen and when it came back he said it was still “wrong.”
‘My wife explained that she has a severe food allergy. The meals came, my wife got the food she was allergic to…her meal came out wrong for the third time,” he said on his CBS show last night.
He apologized by making a “snide” remark that he had to cook it himself, and is fully forgiven by Keith McNally, the restaurant owner who first disgraced him about the incident.
“It takes a real man to do this. I’ve behaved much worse than Corden in the past, but I wasn’t man enough to apologize. For this reason, I am going to lift the ban on Corden,” McNally said Tuesday.
But restaurant staff did not accept Corden’s apology Tuesday.
“I’m sorry, but that’s bullshit,” one server, who declined to be named, told DailyMail.com.

There are only two omelets on the menu at the famous New York City eatery; the $25 omelet with herbs, and the $27, egg white omelet. Both come with a side of home fries or salad.
The servers explained that Corden asked for something that wasn’t offered, and was upset when it wasn’t up to his standards.
“First, how do you know you’re allergic to the white, but not the yolk? And second, why bother ordering an omelet?
“He wanted an omelet with only egg yolks. Not the egg white omelette, but egg yolks.

There are plenty of egg-free options on the Balthazar Sunday brunch menu, including Belgian waffles, pancakes, and nine entrees like the house burger or salad.
Balthazar’s staff suggested that the egg allergy was not the real reason for Corden’s outburst and that he had been rude to them in the past.

Some doctors recommend that a person with an egg allergy can safely eat cooked egg yolks, as yolks contain less protein than egg whites and are therefore less allergenic.
At the foot of the lengthy breakfast and brunch menu is a note informing guests that while ‘everything will be made to accommodate food allergies’ the staff ‘cannot always guarantee’ this will be possible.

A female diner who was brunching at the bar with her partner on Tuesday quietly sent her dish back.
She had ordered the egg white omelette, but was presented with the egg yolk alternative.
George apologized and immediately switched them, insisting it was “entirely his fault.”
The woman gladly accepted the replacement.
McNally also owns Pastis, Minetta Tavern and Morandi in the West Village – three well-known, respected New York institutions that are regularly visited by celebrities.
He first shamed Corden on Instagram, telling his followers how the comedian had abused the staff twice.
