Balthazar staff lash out at James Corden after he claimed omelet tantrum was caused by egg allergy

Balthazar’s staff mocked James Corden’s attempt to explain away his omelet tantrum last night by claiming he was concerned about his wife’s “severe” egg allergy, telling DailyMail.com that the strip was simply “very, very rude’ and should not have ordered the dish .

The infamous omelet saga began on October 9 when Corden and his wife Julia dined with friends at the restaurant. Julia asked for a yolk omelette – something not on the extensive brunch menu.

When it arrived the dish had some protein in it. Corden sent it back to the kitchen and when it came back he said it was still “wrong.”

‘My wife explained that she has a severe food allergy. The meals came, my wife got the food she was allergic to…her meal came out wrong for the third time,” he said on his CBS show last night.

He apologized by making a “snide” remark that he had to cook it himself, and is fully forgiven by Keith McNally, the restaurant owner who first disgraced him about the incident.

“It takes a real man to do this. I’ve behaved much worse than Corden in the past, but I wasn’t man enough to apologize. For this reason, I am going to lift the ban on Corden,” McNally said Tuesday.

But restaurant staff did not accept Corden’s apology Tuesday.

“I’m sorry, but that’s bullshit,” one server, who declined to be named, told DailyMail.com.

James Corden apologized last night for his rudeness to Balthazar’s staff, saying the reason he was so upset was that he was trying to make sure his wife Julia, who has a “severe food allergy,” didn’t get something that made her sick. would become of

Corden’s wife ordered the omelette with herbs but asked to cook it with only egg yolks and no egg whites

There are only two omelets on the menu at the famous New York City eatery; the $25 omelet with herbs, and the $27, egg white omelet. Both come with a side of home fries or salad.

The servers explained that Corden asked for something that wasn’t offered, and was upset when it wasn’t up to his standards.

“First, how do you know you’re allergic to the white, but not the yolk? And second, why bother ordering an omelet?

“He wanted an omelet with only egg yolks. Not the egg white omelette, but egg yolks.

“First, how do you know you’re allergic to the white, but not the yolk? And second, why bother ordering an omelette?’ he asked.

There are plenty of egg-free options on the Balthazar Sunday brunch menu, including Belgian waffles, pancakes, and nine entrees like the house burger or salad.

Balthazar’s staff suggested that the egg allergy was not the real reason for Corden’s outburst and that he had been rude to them in the past.

‘We are constantly confronted with this kind of behavior from people.

“But he … he was very, very rude,” said George, one of the bartenders.

Corden and his wife Julia dined at Scott’s in London in 2018. He said his wife politely told staff she had a “severe food allergy.”

Some doctors recommend that a person with an egg allergy can safely eat cooked egg yolks, as yolks contain less protein than egg whites and are therefore less allergenic.

At the foot of the lengthy breakfast and brunch menu is a note informing guests that while ‘everything will be made to accommodate food allergies’ the staff ‘cannot always guarantee’ this will be possible.

Balthazar Owner Keith McNally

A female diner who was brunching at the bar with her partner on Tuesday quietly sent her dish back.

She had ordered the egg white omelette, but was presented with the egg yolk alternative.

George apologized and immediately switched them, insisting it was “entirely his fault.”

The woman gladly accepted the replacement.

McNally also owns Pastis, Minetta Tavern and Morandi in the West Village – three well-known, respected New York institutions that are regularly visited by celebrities.

He first shamed Corden on Instagram, telling his followers how the comedian had abused the staff twice.

Balthazar owner Keith McNally forgave Corden on Tuesday after his on-air apology

The first time, he said Corden demanded free drinks for his entire table after he found a hair in his food, which McNally said was “devilish” but can be found in most restaurants.

The brunch incident took place on October 9. Julia ordered an omelette with full yolk – an unusual request.

McNally’s original description makes no mention of the protein allergy.

‘Mr. Corden’s wife ordered an egg yolk omelette with Gruyere cheese and salad.

“A few minutes after they got the food, James called their server, MK, and told her there was a little bit of egg white mixed in with the yolk. MK informed the floor manager, G.

‘The kitchen remade the dish, but unfortunately sent it with home fries instead of salad.

Then James Corden started yelling madly at the waiter, ‘You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go to the kitchen and make the omelette myself!’

Corden claimed last night that he was calm, not yelling, and therefore did not think he had done anything wrong.

In an interview with The New York Times the day after McNally’s post, he said the topic was “under” discussion.

“I just think it’s among all of us. It’s under you. It’s definitely under your publication,’ he told the reporter.

Last night, on his show, he apologized for being “snide”.

“Because I didn’t yell or yell, didn’t get up from my chair, didn’t scold anyone or use derogatory language, I’ve walked around thinking I hadn’t done anything wrong.

‘But I have. I made a rude comment,” he said, adding that he “appreciates and respects everyone in the service industry.”

Corden’s current contract with Viacom CBS for his Late Late Show expires next year.

He and his wife are selling their $9.7 million home in Brentwood and plan to return to the UK next year.
