It's been a long night celebrating the plethora of incredible video game releases in 2023, and it's all been building up to this moment. The Game Awards' Game of the Year 2023 is none other than Baldur's Gate 3.
Of course it had to go to Larian Studios' genre-defining role-playing game, right? Baldur's Gate 3 has taken the gaming world by storm since its release, thanks to an engaging choice-based story, engaging combat system, and lovable characters. Last month, Baldur's Gate 3 won The ultimate game of the year from the Golden Joystick Awards tribute, so this is another award under the Larian Studios name, and there's no way this one doesn't deserve every award it gets.
Baldur's Gate 3 had to resist Alan Wake2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 (2023), And Super Mario Bros. Miracle to get over it. These were all real Game of the Year material, and I think it's fair to say that any of them could have taken home the award if it hadn't been such a competitive year.
Plus, the wait is finally over, Xbox Series X|S owners. Larian announced this on social media Baldur's Gate 3 is now available to download and play, so you can dive straight into the action (after a pretty big download, of course).
This means that The Game Awards are over for another year. In addition to the prizes themselves, we also had several exciting announcements, including DLC for God of war Ragnarök and the announcement of a slew of Sega games. Same time next year then?
