More than 1.3 million people have played And According to developer Larian Studios, Baldur's Gate 3 has been completed. The majority of these players – actually 1.24 million – were transformed into a conscious cheese wheel at some point during their playthrough. That's a lot of bouncing wheels of cheese! Baldur's Gate 3 was released on August 3 for Windows PC and Mac Larian's latest statistics tell the story of how many people played the wildly popular role-playing game set in the fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragon.
It's probably no surprise that 94% of players have created a custom character, and those players have spent “a combined 8,196 years” perfecting their avatar. However, you can choose to play Baldur's Gate 3 as one of many characters, with Gale being the most popular choice, followed by Astarion. Karlach and Shadowheart are nearly tied for third place, followed by Wyll and Lae'zel. Furthermore, both Karlach and Shadowheart are intended for humans not playing like them – are among the top romantic interests. But Shadowheart is the clear leader there as the boos from 51.3% of players who reached the 'final act of her romantic arc'. Karlach and Lae'zel follow.
⚔️ Over 1.3 million players have completed Baldur's Gate 3 since we launched in August.
A number almost matched by those of you who have been transformed into a wheel of cheese.

Speaking of romance, you may have heard of it Baldur's Gate 3bear sex. Halsin the druid is one of the game's romantic characters; part of his shtick is that he can turn into a bear. And yes, you can have sex with Halsin while he's in his bear form. It turns out that the majority of Halsin lovers choose not to “bear all,” as Larian put it, and tempt him into his human state.
In total, Baldur's Gate 3 has been played for almost 51,662 consecutive years, or 452,556,984 hours. That's a lot! Larian provided an update on November 30 Baldur's Gate 3 with a patch that added more ways to play: Custom Mode and Honor Mode. Custom mode allows players to choose settings for how they want to play, and Honor mode only allows one save file – meaning no save-scumming. And in Honor Mode you have one life. In short, it is the most difficult way to play Baldur's Gate 3, and players are rewarded with a gold d20. Since Larian added the mode in late November, only 464 parties have completed the game with that mode, while approximately 158,000 parties have started in Honor mode. More than 34,000 players have died trying.
Some of you who have started a playthrough in Honor Mode? 158,000
Of those players, 464 games have already reached the end. 34,000 of you have already met your match. Better luck next time. pic.twitter.com/sLZ53yxHS4— Larian Studios (@larianstudios) December 5, 2023
Stats like these are a fun way to visualize how people play a game Baldur's Gate 3, where choice is so important. The game has such a huge community, one seemingly united by their time spent as a wheel of cheese.
