Even though it's been a few weeks already Baldur's Gate 3 launched on Xbox Series X|S, some players are still experiencing an issue where save data is deleted once they log out. The issue is being investigated by Microsoft but has yet to be resolved. Luckily, Larian Studios has provided a solution for anyone desperate to get stuck, utilizing the studios' cross-save system.
If posted on Twitter/X, Larian Studios has shared a step-by-step way to access their cross-save system and not lose too much progress in your future playthroughs. Once this is done, your last five saved files will be automatically uploaded to the Larian servers. So if you face the deleted save data bug, you can reload any of your previous save files without losing your entire progress.
That said, Larian has indicated that all players should wait for the notification that “Syncing cloud save” is no longer visible to ensure all saves have been uploaded – otherwise you may find yourself back at square one.
Should the firmware issue occur, you'll need to re-enable the cross-save functionality in your game's options screen, which will give you access to previous saves you've uploaded to the servers.
Larian has also announced that it plans to increase the amount of save data files each player can have through this system, should this workaround last a little longer than expected. It is best to keep an eye on the official for updates on the situation Larian Studios Twitter page.
