Baldur’s Gate 3 may not have released until August 3, but it’s already one of Steam’s biggest games, with a concurrent user record so high that it’s already cemented itself into Steam’s top ten most played games ever.
The much-anticipated sequel — which has been decades in the making — has broken its own simultaneous record time and time again throughout the weekend (and — no exaggeration — at least six times since I started writing this article).
At the moment of writing, Baldur gate 3‘s concurrent Steam peak sits at 805,654, ranking it ninth SteamDB‘s charts of the games with the highest concurrent user records ever and pushed Apex Legends from the top ten to eleventh place.
That means in just three days, Baldur’s Gate 3 has had more concurrent players — that is, concurrent players who were all logged in and active in the game at the time the record was set — than games like Valheim, Grand Theft Auto 5, And Lot 2.
Even more amazing, Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently the second most played game on Steam in the past 24 hours, with more concurrent players this weekend than even Dota 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds. Of all the games on Steam, only CS:GO has had more concurrent players in the last 24 hours.
“I played one character on PC for 50 hours. This wasn’t enough to get through the game, and I’m still in the early to mid-stage of Act 2, but it’s more than enough to get a feel for the expansive scale and depth of play here,” said our editor-in-chief, Jake, of the highly anticipated RPG, giving it five out of five stars.
We would say so Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best RPGs ever, but if you’re hunting for the next adventure with a few companions, we’ve got a list of the best MMOs at. However, if you prefer to explore massive worlds on your own, be sure to check out our list of the best single player games.
