Baldurs Gate 3 has been out for a year now, and while Larian Studios won’t be releasing any major DLC, the developer has continued to tweak the game with new cutscenes and features. A new update is set to arrive in September, adding new endings tailored specifically for the most evil adventurers among us. Larian has been teasing some of these evil endings on Twitter, sparking interest from fans.
Larian has been sharing snippets of some of these endings on Twitter , and they’re truly diabolical. One of them features the Dark Urge, an alternate Origin playthrough that curses its companions to a terrible fate. For those of us who like to pick the evil playthroughs, it’ll be nice to see a little more variety in the endings. It feels great to rehabilitate Astarion and befriend Shadowheart, but sometimes you just want to watch the world burn.
The Dark Urge is capable of spectacular acts of evil, but don’t worry — the traditional player-created protagonist, aka Tav, can also cause all sorts of trouble for everyone. An evil Tav doesn’t have the same backstory or connection to the antagonists. Instead, they’re just evil for the love of the game, which I can respect.
It’s been interesting to see how Larian is adjusting the game in its post-launch state. Originally, the drow Minthara could only be recruited by throwing the poor tieflings of Emerald Grove under the bus. Now, good-aligned players can recruit her in Act 2, thanks to a cunning workaround. Some fans are still holding out hope for more additions here and there, like a forbidden romance with Gortash, but I’ll settle for these new dastardly endings to one of the greatest RPG stories ever told.
