The companions of Baldur’s Gate 3 are one of the game’s strong points. Each of them is a likable, well-realized character, and by the time I got to Baldur’s Gate proper, I was ready to take a bullet for each one. Not only are they fun to talk to alone, but they also interact with each other like friends. I tend to laugh heartily while listening to their pointless conversations, especially if Astarion is involved.
It’s these strong characters and their silly jokes that make this fan project so perfect. Sho, a YouTuber, created a parody of a classic 90s sitcom Friends featuring the characters from Origins of Baldur’s Gate 3. Instead of Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, Rachel, and Ross, we get a nice montage of Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Astarion, Gale, Wyll, and Karlach moments. Honestly, I think Friends would have been a much shorter and more entertaining show if you added Lae’zel to the mix.
Each member of Baldur’s Gate 3The party is filled with a healthy dose of drama. Shadowheart is a cleric serving a dark goddess. Astarion is a vampire. Gale has a magic bomb inside him that causes him to occasionally gobble up magical items. Well, Lae’zel literally comes from another dimension. Wyll and Karlach even get their friendship off to a bad start due to a misunderstanding.
Larian Studios has done a fantastic job of giving the player a great party to bounce around on. They’re all interesting and have the potential to shake up the story, but they’re not so antagonistic that it’s difficult to travel with them. I would absolutely tune in to see their mundane interactions play out over the course of a 10-season sitcom.
