Baldivis crash: Three men killed and two others left fighting for their lives after a head-on collision between an Audi and a Kia Stinger on a country road
Three men have been tragically killed and two others are fighting for their lives after a horror head-on collision on a country road.
A Kia Stinger and an Audi sedan collided at high speed on Sixty Eight Road in Baldivis, 45km south of Perth, at 5.10pm on Wednesday.
Four people were trapped in the Audi and a fifth was trapped in the Kia when paramedics arrived.
Rescuers threw tarpaulin over the Audi and used the jaws of life to tear one of the vehicles apart, miraculously rescuing a passenger from the wreckage.
Those who survived have since been rushed to hospital for treatment.
A Kia Stinger and an Audi sedan collided at high speed on Sixty Eight Road in Baldivis, 45km south of Perth, at 5.10pm on Wednesday.
“It’s always a miracle when someone survives an accident like this, it’s quite confronting,” said Acting Inspector Brendon Barwick of the Western Australia Police told the West.
“Hopefully they can pull through.”
The man whose life was saved by the jaws was flown to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.
The passenger in the other car was taken by ambulance to Rockingham General Hospital in a serious condition.
Numerous fire engines and ambulances responded to the scene to recover the bodies and clear the wreckage.
A witness to the crash said they saw a car ‘fly’ past them before hearing screeching brakes and a loud crash.
Off-duty nurse Dina King said the impact caused one of the car’s engines to dislodge from the vehicle and land it 50 meters away from the crash site.
“I held the driver’s hand and kept telling him to listen to my voice and take deep breaths,” Ms. King said.
“It was just horrible… it was very, very sad.”
The families of the dead young men were among those who gathered at the scene.
Major crash investigators will remain on site late into the night to determine what caused the collision.
A/Insp. Barwick told reporters he believed speed may have been a contributing factor to the fatal crash.
