Bad news: Up to a million people can now join a Zoom call, so don’t worry about stage fright

Your next big business Zoom call could be a smash hit after the company announced a major expansion of calling capacity.

The The video conferencing platform can now support up to a million participants in a one-off webinar, as Zoom calls remain a popular medium for organizations to reach larger audiences.

According to the company, the expansion will “transform the way large-scale communications happen,” allowing presenters and audiences to seamlessly connect with each other from anywhere in the world — provided their internet connection is good enough, of course.

The news is part of a selection of new webinar options from Zoom, in addition to its monthly and annual webinar subscriptions.

Customers can now select webinars for 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 250,000 or the peak capacity of one million participants. Zoom says its webinars can host sessions up to 30 hours long and feature up to 1,000 interactive video panelists, giving attendees a full conference experience.

Customers will have support from Zoom’s Event Services team to ensure the event runs smoothly, and will have access to a wealth of analytics and audience performance reports to help improve future events.

According to the company, the new webinar experience is useful not only for large companies, which can now have conversations with their entire workforce, but also for government organizations that want to communicate with large, diverse audiences, or even for entertainment companies or celebrities who want to reach as many fans as possible.

“Zoom’s comprehensive webinar offering is revolutionizing how organizations can seamlessly connect and engage with massive audiences,” said Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer at Zoom.

“Now event organizers have the flexibility and power to deliver truly interactive experiences on an unprecedented scale and the ability to purchase large one-off webinars.”

The announcement follows news that US presidential candidate Kamala Harris recently broke the record for the highest attendance on a Zoom call, with a reported 200,000 attendees.
