Bad Bunny’s ex files a lawsuit for $40M… after he is seen with Kendall Jenner
Bad Bunny is being sued by his ex-girlfriend.
The 29-year-old rapper, who apparently threw some shade at Kendall Jenner’s ex Devin Booker in a new song, is on trial for his ex-love Carliz De La Cruz Hernandez.
The demand is for $40 million, according to a Puerto Rican media Warning as well as The Guardian.
The lawsuit is based on De La Cruz’s claim that the Grammy winner used her voice to say “Bad Bunny, baby” without her permission in the song Pa Ti in 2016, and again in 2022’s Dos Mil 16, as well as in promotional material, in concerts. and on different music platforms.
Pa Ti has been viewed over 355 million times on YouTube and has over 235 million streams on Spotify.
Lawsuit: Bad Bunny, 29, is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, Carliz De La Cruz Hernandez, for $40 million. The lawsuit claims the Grammy winner used the voice recording of “Bad Bunny, baby” in her songs without her permission.
Dos Mil 16 has been viewed some 60 million times on YouTube and has 280 million views on Spotify.
In the presentation, De La Cruz maintains: “Since then, thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby'”.
This recognition “has caused, and currently causes, De La Cruz to feel worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious.”
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, has not responded to the lawsuit, nor has his manager, Noah Kamil Assad Byrne, who is also being sued.
De La Cruz claimed that she recorded the now-infamous phrase in 2015, at the request of her then-boyfriend.
She said that she was staying with friends at the time and that she made the recording in a bathroom because it was the quietest place she could find, and then sent it to them.
The couple got engaged on January 1, 2016 and plan to marry in July of that year, but in April the “Estamos bien” singer signed a contract with Rimas Music, and in May De La Cruz was accepted to law school at the University from Puerto Rico.
The couple went their separate ways at the time, but briefly reconciled in 2017, before parting ways for good.
Recording: The lawsuit claims that the recording of ‘Bad Bunny, baby’ was used in the song Pa Ti in 2016, and again in Dos Mil 16 of 2022, as well as in promotional material, in concerts.
Anxious: she supports the presentation, “thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby’, and that the constant recognition has made her feel ‘…intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious’
Rejected: The lawsuit alleges that representatives for Bad Bunny and Rimas Music contacted De La Cruz in 2022 and offered him $2,000 for the rights to the recording, saying it would be used on the upcoming album Un Verano Sin Ti. She refused, but says the recording was used anyway.
The lawsuit claims that De La Cruz, who is now an attorney, was contacted by one of Bad Bunny’s representatives in 2022.
On that call, [the representative] He said: ‘I know you don’t like to talk about Voldemort [referring to Martínez]but I need to ask you something,’ and then they offered her $2,000 for the track and she refused, according to court documents.
The presentation also claimed someone from Rimas Music who also offered to buy it, saying that the recording would be used on the upcoming album Un Verano Sin Ti.
The lawsuit claims that no settlement was reached, but that the recording was used in the song and released without De La Cruz’s consent.
