All Elite Wrestling footage of the backstage fight at ‘All In: London’ showed CM Punk initiating the incident by walking up to Jack Perry, shoving him, putting him in a chokehold and punching him away from the crowd at Wembley Stadium.
Footage of the incident was broadcast live on AEW’s weekly TV show “Dynamite” just over a week after Punk, who has since signed with WWE, trashed the company during a two-hour interview with journalist Ariel Helwani.
The footage directly contradicts some of the things Punk told Helwani and suggested as facts.
AEW’s footage from last August lasted barely more than a minute, but did not show the reported incident that company CEO Tony Khan allegedly referenced when he “feared for his life,” which led to Punk’s firing weeks later .
Punk allegedly pushed Khan against television monitors in the AEW production room later that evening.
Punk worked for AEW for two years before the backstage incident and now works for WWE
Punk approached Perry in London for his match with Samoa Joe in front of 80,000 people
Punk is seen forcibly reaching for someone off camera before disappearing from view to end the footage. Perry doesn’t throw a punch during the incident.
‘All In: London’ is believed to be the company’s biggest show of all time, with more than 80,000 in attendance at Wembley Stadium.
Perry defeated HOOK on the pre-show, while Punk defeated Samoa Joe in his final AEW match.
Both Punk and Perry were originally suspended due to the incident, and neither has wrestled for the company since that day.
Punk started the fight by choking Perry before landing the only punch during the incident
Punk was fired ‘with cause’ within a few weeks. He returned to WWE last November during the ‘Survivor Series’.
Perry has appeared with New Japan Pro Wrestling with the new nickname ‘The Scapegoat’. NJPW has co-hosted events with AEW in the past.
Punk told Helwani that Perry stepped up to him and shoulder-checked him, but neither appeared in the footage.
Some of the people separating Perry and Punk include Joe, the current AEW World Champion, Chris Hero and Jerry Lynn.
