Bachelorette winner Devin Strader’s shocking history of criminal acts against ex-girlfriend revealed – as ABC’s faces grilling from fans over duty of care

Bachelorette winner Devin Strader has become the center of a media storm after it emerged that he was granted a restraining order by an unnamed ex-girlfriend in 2017, days after he broke into her home.

Devin, 28, who captured the heart of lead actress Jenn Tran on the final season of the ABC dating show before brutally dumping her shortly after their engagement, was 21 when he was arrested for breaking into his former partner’s Louisiana home.

According to reports, his ex-girlfriend filed a restraining order against him just three days later, alleging that he spat on her and put her in a chokehold.

In legal documents filed on March 19, 2017, Devin’s ex-partner alleged that her home had been burglarized and that a diamond necklace he had given her was missing.

She also claimed to police that he “came to her home, banged on the door several times and yelled at her.”

Later that evening, [Strader] “He set fires in the street with what appeared to be an actual restraining order,” the affidavit, seen by Entertainment Weekly, said.

‘She also had a flat tire in her car and when it was changed, [Strader] came out and started laughing at her.’

Devin allegedly pleaded guilty to trespassing and destruction of property valued at less than $500. He was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation.

Meanwhile, the restraining order, filed on March 22, 2017, alleged that Devin “spit on me and threw his drink at me during a Pelicans game in front of everyone in the crowd” and “put me in a chokehold with my mouth in front of him.”

Reports of Devin’s alleged criminal past circulated widely on social media, in turn raising questions about The Bachelorette’s casting process and its duty of care.

In a viral TikTok, user lovetoseeitpod pleaded with producers to be more strict when conducting background checks on prospective contestants.

She said in the video, “We feel like this should have been a reason not to have Devin on the show.

I think we can all agree that the production company [and] The network needs to be very careful about prioritizing the safety of their leads and not putting them in a position where they have to date someone who has a track record that shows they are not safe to get into a serious relationship with.’

“It feels like laziness or negligence that they weren’t discovered sooner,” the user added about the court documents.

“Do a better job of casting. I think in the future you need to improve the details of your background checks because this is not okay.”

A source close to the production told Entertainment Weekly, “We take the safety of our participants very seriously and are committed to conducting thorough investigations.

“Despite our thorough screening process, this protective order did not emerge during our searches.”

Devin brutally ended his relationship with Jenn shortly after the cameras stopped rolling

Jenn and Devin left The Bachelorette in a loving mood, but their relationship quickly deteriorated after filming ended and Devin called off their engagement over the phone.

In an interview with People, she said, “I had no idea what was going to happen, and at that point I was just thinking about the things that were important to me.

“And what was important to me was the fact that he didn’t respect our whole relationship afterwards.”

She then reproached him for being so sweet to her in the beginning and then changing so quickly.

“Like I said, I can sit here and try to understand why anyone would change their mind after all these crazy declarations of love,” she said.

“But then to sit there and disrespect the whole relationship by doing things that you know are going to hurt me, and doing things that are just disrespectful to me, that’s the next level of insanity.”

She also said she was surprised he wasn’t angrier after he ended their engagement over the phone.

During The Bachelorette finale, Devin claimed he had “real” feelings for Jenn, but they faded.

“I’ve obviously disappointed you,” he told her. “And I can’t say anything else. But everything I felt for you was real.”
