Bachelorette viewers are convinced the show is “staged” after seeing what they saw as a major clue in the series finale, and angrily accused producers of creating drama.
The second episode of season 21 of the ABC dating series aired on Monday, in which bachelors Aaron Erb and Devin Strader sensationally clash in their battle for Jenn Tran’s love.
Their explosive feud reached a fever pitch when Aaron, 29, mockingly gifted Devin, 28, a book on “self-development,” reminding the audience of the time his twin brother Noah Erb received a similar gift from Bennett Jordan in Season 16.
Viewers refused to believe the final scene, calling it “fake” after they struggled to find evidence that the book – Principles for Self-Growth by Dr. Brandon O’Conner – actually exists.
Upon closer inspection, they even discovered a spelling error on the spine, leading to the conclusion that it had been made specifically for the series by the producers.

In scenes that aired in episode two, Aaron Erb gave Devin Strader what appeared to be a fake self-development book
“There’s no way the Bachelor producers didn’t plan this…” wrote one viewer on X.
“That scene in the book between Devin and Aaron was staged… those two are probably cool in real life now,” said another.
A third wrote: ‘My favorite part of The Bachelor is when they talk about books. It’s books like this one, which you literally can’t find a copy of online, that are always about “emotional intelligence.”
“These are the books that mediocre heterosexual men read, if they read at all.”
A fourth said: ‘If I had a nickel for every time a man gave another man a book on emotional intelligence, I’d have two nickels. It’s not much, but it’s weird that it happens twice.’
“These guys are attacking Devin for ‘interrupting’ the group date, as if the producers didn’t set the whole thing up like they do every season to create fake drama,” said another.
A sixth added: ‘I’m sorry ABC, I can’t watch this season. Everyone seems fake, including The Bachelorette. There’s something wrong with this season and I just don’t believe it. I wonder what the ratings will be.’
On Reddit, one user posted: ‘It was definitely a fake book. Someone saw the producers misspelled a word on the spine, then googled it and the book doesn’t exist.’

Aaron and Devin’s explosive feud broke out when Devin took Jenn out for ice cream during what was supposed to be a group date.
In the scenes that followed, Aaron took his co-star aside and gave him the surprise gift.
Aaron said, “Honestly, I support you and I have something to offer you.
‘I took this with me. It’s something I’ve read a few times. It’s helped me grow as a person.
“I want to give it to you because I want you to win. I wish you the best, be careful how you handle yourself.”

Viewers accused the production of fabricating the drama on social media
While Devin accepted the gift, he was secretly furious behind the scenes and vented his frustration in his confessional.
“I don’t know what he’s planning, especially with the book,” he fumed.
‘That’s his modus operandi, passive aggression. He wouldn’t say I lack emotional intelligence, so he gives me a book on emotional intelligence.
“That was his petty way of saying I had my last chance with Devin.”
