Bachelor In Paradise star shares worrying health update – after suffering a life-threatening seizure amid drug and alcohol addiction battle

Bachelor In Paradise star Davey Lloyd has revealed the results of his first colonoscopy after years of drug and alcohol abuse.

The reality star, who recently suffered a life-threatening seizure due to his substance addiction, took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday with the health update.

He started by sharing a photo of himself smiling and giving a thumbs up while sitting in a hospital bed and writing, “First colonoscopy.”

In the next slide he wrote: ‘Ladies and gentlemen who suffer from fatigue or fatigue [been] using drugs and alcohol for a while. I highly recommend that you consider a colonoscopy.”

“They found 19 polyps,” he continued, adding a shocked emoji on his face.

Davey then shared a photo of his medical report detailing the results of his colonoscopy, before clarifying that the outcome could have been much worse.

“Thank God no cancer, but I still need to do more tests and have another colonoscopy in a year,” he wrote.

Polyps are tissue growths that can form in different places in the body.

Most polyps are benign, but some can lead to cancer.

Davey’s update comes two weeks after he first spoke about his harrowing battle with substance abuse.

At the time, the Bachelorette star, who rose to fame in 2015 on Sam Frost’s season of the dating show franchise, shocked his followers by sharing photos of himself looking serious in the hospital, dressed in a surgical gown.

‘TRIGGER WARNING!! This has been the most difficult and ongoing struggle of my life. Recently I had my third seizure and my biggest one to date, so intense I died,” the reality star wrote.

Luckily, Davey’s friend was there to revive him.

‘At one point he even gave up because it looked like I wasn’t going to come back to life. This man knows who he is and I thank you for being there for me during such a traumatic time,” Davey continued.

The ambulance arrived a few minutes later.

What is a polyp?

A polyp is a protruding tissue growth from a surface in the body, usually a mucous membrane. Polyps can develop in the colon and rectum, ear canal, cervix, stomach, nose, uterus, throat, or bladder.

Most polyps are benign, meaning they are harmless. But because polyps are caused by abnormal cell growth and, like cancer, grow by rapidly dividing cells, they can become cancerous.

A doctor can determine whether a polyp is malignant or benign by performing a biopsy (sending a tissue sample for examination by a pathologist). If the polyp is difficult to reach, for example in the colon, you may be referred for a more invasive procedure such as a colonoscopy.

‘My lips were blue, my jaw was clenched and I was unresponsive. My heart stopped,” Davey revealed, adding that he regained consciousness a few minutes after paramedics started working on him.

‘I was very confused, I had a cracked sternum and had also wet myself because my bladder was releasing. But thank God I was alive.’

Davey went on to say that the experience was so harrowing that he had decided to quit drugs and alcohol for good, and that he had been sober for the past 90 days.

‘I have been very selfish and have no control anymore. Now it’s time to take control of my life – I WANT TO LIVE,” he wrote.

“So many of us struggle with addiction and are too afraid to admit it. Let me tell you; Being an addict is a lonely place. But admitting you need help is courageous.”

Davey also revealed he spent five weeks in rehab, admitting it was ‘tragic’ that he ‘almost died’ before realizing he needed professional help.

‘I still have a long way to go and I am far from perfect. IT’S OKAY TO SEEK HELP. YOU ARE NOT ALONE,” he concluded.
