Baby name consultant makes shocking confession about her family dog’s moniker

A viral baby name consultant has shockingly ‘betrayed’ her own family member after stealing her cousin’s ‘dream name’ for her dog.

Jessie Paquette, a TikToker obsessed with baby names, came up with the “perfect idea” for her new rescue dog’s name, but it wasn’t until later that her “perfect” suggestion would hilariously backfire.

“I accidentally stole my cousin’s baby name. Let’s talk about it,” the name-obsessed content creator posted on TikTok, explaining how she “accidentally committed the cardinal sin of naming babies” and “should know better.”

“My mother was rescuing a dog that was going to join our family dog. Her name is Olive and I tried to think of a name that fit Olive perfectly. The new dog is a beautiful little white dog, and I thought, “Oh, she must be Pearl,” Jessie said. People.

“My mother said, ‘You’re 100 percent right, she’s Pearl.’ I helped her take care of the dog and the more time I spent with her, the more I thought, ‘Her name is definitely Pearl,’ said the baby name consultant.

The adorable name seemed like a perfect fit for her family’s new four-legged friend, until Paquette introduced Pearl to her extended family.

At a family gathering, Paquette remembered where she had heard the charming name before.

‘It was time for my son’s first birthday, which my mother organized. And my whole family came in and we were really excited for them to meet Pearl. And the moment it flew out of my mouth, I looked and made eye contact with my cousin and her jaw was just on the floor,” she said.

Paquette’s cousin then asked if she was just messing around, confirming her suspicion that Paquette was the one who suggested their new pup’s name.

“I said, ‘Yes, I named her. I apologize. To be honest, I completely forgot that that was on your list of baby names until now, right now. But I’m so sorry.’

Paquette, who has 113,000 followers on TikTok, took to the popular social media platform to share the whole ordeal.

In the now-viral clip, Paquette notes that her cousin isn’t pregnant yet, but he could be in the near future.

She also noted that because of her passion for baby names and helping families struggling to find the perfect name, she “probably gets fifty baby names a day that are people’s most popular baby names.”

“It really slipped my mind,” she added.

Luckily, her cousin wasn’t bitter about Paquette’s “unique” name choice, as the name consultant claimed the conversation about the future name lasted “easily more than a year” before Pearl the dog came along.

Her cousin’s partner laughingly admitted that they were ‘relieved’ by the name mishap.

“Her partner actually said, ‘Oh thank goodness, I didn’t want that name on our list. Thanks for taking it out of the running.’ And I thought, “No, it’s not out of the running! You could still use it,” Paquette said.

Paquette even said her family would support her cousin if she still wanted to use the name.

“We honestly have the kind of family that if she really wanted to use it, we would all just laugh and move on. I don’t think anyone will question that much.’

Baby name critics have since taken to social media to share their thoughts on the ordeal because Paquette was so surprised to see how many people felt like she did something that really went too far.

‘I didn’t know people would be angry. I thought, “Oh my God,” she said.

‘But I got a lot of responses from people saying, “How would you feel if she named her dog your baby name when you were about to name your baby?”

Paquette said if the hypothetical baby shared a name with her beloved pup, she would dress them in matching outfits.

“I said, ‘I’d think it would be funny and I’d have them take pictures together and wear matching sweaters and stuff.’

“I think this speaks more to our sense of humor as a family. [My cousin] was absolutely not bothered by it. I waited until the dust had completely settled to even post it, just in case there were underlying feelings that might not have come out right away. She thinks it’s funny. There are absolutely no real hard feelings,” Paquette said.

The hysterical video has since been viewed more than 30,000 times, as onlookers added their two cents to the accident.

“If it was a super unique name I’d be a little annoyed, but it’s a white dog named Pearl,” one user joked.

“I’m basically her in this situation and I’ve been bitter for about two years because a friend did that to me. I struggle with girls names and finally found a name I liked and she used it,” another commented.

Another user suggested changing the dog’s name completely: ‘Is the dog young enough to change it? Because Olive and Opal would be so cute too.”

Another user asked if Paquette would ever consider renaming her pup, to which she replied, “Oh absolutely not hahahah, she’s so Pearl!”
