A nine-month-old baby died in a hot car after his grandmother left him in it for eight hours.
The unidentified baby was found by their grandmother, who was seen by police shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday holding the unconscious child in her arms.
The baby had been in the car outside the East Flournoy family’s home since 8:30 a.m.
“The parents were at work. The grandmother had custody of the child at the time,” Beeville Assistant Police Chief Richard Cantu Jr. said Kris 6 News.
According to police, it is believed the child was already dead before the grandmother found him in the car. KHOU 11.
No charges have been filed against the grandmother, who was hospitalized Thursday with a serious medical condition, the outlet reported.
“There are no charges being filed at this time. We are making sure we have enough information that fits the element of a crime for a misdemeanor before any charges are filed,” Cantu said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that “the child’s grandmother had left the child in a child seat in the backseat of her car,” the statement said.

The child’s death is being investigated by the Beeville Police Department and the Texas Rangers Public Safety Division.
Cantu warns residents to “pay more attention to who is in their cars” as temperatures continue to rise.
“With temperatures in the 90s and humidity, we have to be more careful about who we leave in the car, even pets,” he told KHOU 11.
This is the second fatal hot car accident in a week and there have been nearly 30 deaths in the U.S. this year, according to Children and cars.

The child’s death comes a day after a 1-year-old died after his mother forgot to drop the child off at daycare in Corpus Christi.
Martine Louis-Jacques, 62, a Florida mother, was charged with child neglect without serious bodily harm after leaving her 5-year-old son in a hot car while she shopped for groceries at Walmart.

Police said the boy, who has not been identified, was “scared and upset” after being left in the car for about 20 minutes while his mother went grocery shopping.
The Walmart employees observed the child [redacted] “Unattended in the vehicle, which was completely locked and all windows were open,” it said.
Mother and son left the store after being reunited. She was later arrested for the incident.
