A baby strangled by its mother along with its brother and sister died three days after its siblings.

Lindsay Clancy, 32, is accused of killing her 5-year-old daughter Cora and 3-year-old son Dawson at the family home in Massachusetts and attacking eight-month-old baby Callan.

The Plymouth County District Attorney confirmed Callan died at a Boston-area hospital Friday morning.

Clancy and Callan initially survived the apparent murder-suicide attempt, with the mother-of-three jumping out of a window on the top floor of the property.

Her horrified husband, Patrick, 34, discovered Clancy unconscious outside their home when he returned from work around 6 p.m. Tuesday and called 911.

Clancy is still being treated at the hospital, currently in police custody, and will be arraigned on murder charges after she is released.

Investigators are looking into whether the midwife suffered from postpartum depression as she was on leave from her job at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Friends of the Clancy family have launched a GoFundMe to support Patrick and help pay for medical bills, funeral bills, and legal bills.

So far, it has raised $438,224 of the $700k goal, with the page adding: ‘This assistance is especially needed as Pat will be unable to work for the foreseeable future as she deals with this painful, life-changing tragedy.

‘We all know that Pat is the kindest and most genuine person. As someone who is always ready to support others, we sincerely thank you for offering yours.’

A vigil was held at Holy Family Church in Duxbury on Thursday night, with a priest saying the mother had been “trying to deal with mental illness” before feeling “overwhelmed”.

Officers arrived at the family home Tuesday after a frantic Patrick discovered his wife unconscious on the floor below a second-story window.

They discovered the three ‘unconscious’ young children upstairs ‘with obvious signs of trauma’.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said it appeared all had been strangled.

Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while Callan received CPR at the scene.

Clancy will be arraigned on charges including two counts of murder and three counts of strangulation and assault and battery with a deadly weapon in the deaths of her two children.

More charges are expected to be added in Callan’s death.

Cruz said they will now perform autopsies to determine how the children died. The results will be made public when a death certificate is issued.

At a press conference, Cruz said of the family: ‘I can’t begin to comprehend the pain, the depth of pain they must be feeling.

“This is an unimaginable and senseless tragedy, and it is an ongoing investigation.”

Cruz cautioned that “no one is here to speculate,” adding that “we are acutely aware of the fact that anyone charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Lindsay Clancey’s father-in-law Christopher Clancy said: “We are all heartbroken right now.”

Clancy had previously shared online that she was struggling with postpartum anxiety.

While Lindsay seemed to be one proud mom on Facebook, she shared about her struggle with postpartum anxiety after the birth of her latest child.

Last July, she wrote that six weeks after the child was born, she felt “scarred” and tried to focus on exercise, nutrition and her mindset, which she said “made all the difference.”

In 2020, she wrote online, “So incredibly grateful for this family and this life,” along with loving images of her children, the Boston Globe reports.

Feelings of depression can be common after childbirth, but on rare occasions they can lead to full-blown postpartum psychosis.

In this extreme form of PPD, a mother can suffer from severe depression and hallucinations that can lead her to harm herself, her children, or both.

The hospital where Lindsay works said in a statement: “We are shocked and saddened to learn of this unthinkable tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by these devastating events.”

Postpartum depression: how struggling new mothers can experience extreme effects, from ‘baby blues’ to psychosis

New mothers can often experience anxiety and depression after childbirth, but these feelings can intensify and last into postpartum depression (PPD) and psychosis.

The first stage is often known as the ‘Baby Blues’, which usually only lasts a few days to two weeks after the child is born.

These blues often cause mild mood swings, anxiety, sadness, irritability, tearfulness, appetite problems, and difficulty sleeping.

If those feelings persist, the sadness may be diagnosed as PPD, which is related to chemical, social, and psychological changes that occur after having a baby, and can be treated with medication and counseling.

PPD symptoms include: severe mood swings, inability to sleep, feelings of hopelessness, severe anxiety and panic attacks, and thoughts of harming yourself or your baby.

Postpartum depression can affect up to 1 in 10 mothers, but if left untreated, the condition can worsen and progress to postpartum psychosis.

This serious mental illness often occurs within the first three months after the child is born and occurs in about one in 1,000 new mothers.

Under postpartum psychosis, women may experience hallucinations, delusions, insomnia, and paranoia.

In its most extreme form, women with postpartum psychosis may attempt to harm themselves, their children, or both.

The DPP has different threads depending on the types of symptoms and severity.

The conditions are usually treated with anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications, psychotherapy, and participation in emotional support groups.
