Newborn baby is rushed to hospital with head injuries after horror home invasion

A newborn baby was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury after a horror house invasion in Alice Springs.

The two months old was held by his mother when two young people reportedly broke into their house in Bokhara Street in Larapinta at 2.30 pm on Wednesday.

One of the teenagers is said to have threatened the mother of four with a weapon before struck her and injured both the woman and her baby.

The police claim that the other teenager reportedly stolen the keys and wallet of the woman while she was attacked before both fled into a vehicle.

Both teenagers, 16 and 17 years old were arrested an hour and a half later.

The mother and the child were taken to the Alice Springs hospital before the baby was flown to Adelaide to be treated for serious head injury.

Detective Superintendent Regional Crime Paul Lawson described the incident as a ‘shocking attack’.

“I am shocked. The community is in shock. The first responds are shocked – this must stop, “he said.

‘I would like to acknowledge the first responds, mainly Alice Springs Police, their presence of this incident was excellent and they quickly removed the perpetrators from the street, which protects the community against further damage to the two.

“Our thoughts go out to the victims of this incident, their families. I can’t even think about what they are going through. ‘

Both teenagers appear on Thursday in Alice Springs Local Court.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted NTPFEs about the incident.
