Baby driver! Italian car maker Alfa Romeo unveils swish new model

Alfa Romeo has unveiled a unique car that Alfa Romeo says is the ideal motorcycle for new parents.

The Tonale Edizione Bambini is a concept version of its latest SUV model and includes a built-in pull-out baby changing table, a baby monitor for the car and a range of additional storage solutions.

To help parents traveling with babies, the Tonale’s 500-litre luggage compartment has an integrated changing table.

The baby monitor in the car can also be controlled via an app, so that passengers in the front seats always have an eye on their child.

To keep children entertained, the vehicle also features tablet holders, mounted to the back of the driver and front passenger seats, as well as a foldable central toy organizer.

The reveal of the concept comes as Alfa Romeo research shows that 59 percent of parents agreed that their car’s interior should maintain a sense of style.

The same percentage say they find it more difficult to keep their car clean after having children – almost half (48%) describe their car as messy or untidy. In fact, more than half (56%) of participants admitted that they were embarrassed to have someone else in their car because of the mess their children had caused.

Created by Alfa Romeo UK, the Edizione Bambini concept comes with a range of features and accessories to enhance the usability of the Tonale for families.

When opening the electronic tailgate, the bespoke unit simply slides out of the parcel shelf to reveal a bespoke, easy-to-clean changing pad. When the changing table is no longer needed, it easily slides back into the parcel shelf, so that no compromises are made to the luggage space.

Alfa Romeo’s research also found that 43 percent of parents consider not being able to see what their child is doing a source of stress while driving.

To maintain visibility at all times, the Edizione Bambini is equipped with an in-car baby monitor, which can be connected via an app to smartphones for use by front passengers and can be positioned for both forward and rear-facing child seats.

For waste such as candy wrappers or tissues, the Tonale Edizione Bambini comes with a six-litre non-contact bin that is mounted in the footwell behind the center console and can be completely removed if desired.

To clean the interior on the go, a car vacuum cleaner is stored on the boot floor and charged on the go via the integrated 12V socket.

An organizer helps to maximize the luggage space of the Tonale. The accordion design allows for easy storage when not in use.

The boot organizer also has a cleaning bag that fits neatly into one of the compartments and comes with a range of products to keep both children and the car clean, including a boot brush, leather cleaner, tissues and wet wipes.

When purchasing the Tonale SUV, customers have a choice of two powertrains: a 160 hp hybrid or a 280 hp plug-in hybrid Q4, capable of 65 km on electric power alone (WLTP combined cycle), in ascending up to 77 km in urban areas.
