Azeez Al-Shaair admits regret over ’embarrassing’ Trevor Lawrence incident in emotional statement as ban ends

Houston Texans star Azeez Al-Shaair has admitted regret over his illegal hit against Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the subsequent brawl between the teams in a lengthy statement on social media.

Al-Shaair’s statement comes after his three-game suspension resulting from the incident ended and he is set to return to the field for the Texans against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

On December 1, an Al-Shair hit to the head of a sliding and defenseless Lawrence caused chaos in Jacksonville. The defensive back had to be restrained by several coaches and Lawrence has not played since receiving the barbaric contact.

“While so many took the first opportunity to jump on the false narrative – that I am a dirty player or a bad person – the messages from everyone who stood by me were the only things keeping me mentally afloat during a time of isolation,” That Al-Shair said on social media.

‘I have learned so much from this whole experience. Seeing myself on video letting my emotions get the best of me to the point where I completely lost it was an embarrassing and eye-opening moment for me.”

‘I have had to earn everything in my life. I never want to let anyone get me to a point where I jeopardize everything I’ve worked for my whole life. That was not the way I wanted to represent myself or my family and from then on I will continue to learn and grow.”

Al-Shaair said he first met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and other league executives during his three-game suspension, questioning the way he was characterized in the official announcement of his suspension .

The defense attorney said he believed his character and integrity had been “unjustly smeared” during the release, but the meeting with Goodell and others was “productive” and gave him hope it would not happen again.

“In that conversation – man to man – I recognized and acknowledged that my actions after my expulsion were careless and at that time I did not think about the responsibility I am blessed with to represent the Shield,” Al-Sjair continued.

“I have also stated that the letter, and in particular the language used in the letter, was equally careless and that the context of the words used was not a reflection of my character, nor of my career, as I was not warned on multiple occasions. for my play on the field.’

Al-Shaair’s goal on Lawrence was not the only controversial incident he has been involved in this season.

During the Texans’ game against the Bears in September he hit Roschon Johnsonwho wasn’t even in the game at the time of another side showdown.

Al-Shaair ended his statement by saying his belief is that everyone in the league office and on the field is on the same team to represent the NFL in the best way possible, something he failed to do earlier this month.

“Finally, I want to say that this world is full of negative people who can’t wait to put you down, but if you move with love and compassion, the seeds of good you’ve planted in the lives of others can grow into the tree itself. that gives you comfort and compassion when you need it most,” Al-Shaair concluded.

‘I am a man of God, I am a leader, a warrior and a lover. “I’m also a great football player and I’m grateful to be back doing what I love.”
