AWS is reportedly making some big changes to its sales team
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is increasingly concerned about competition from Microsoft and Google, despite being the number one cloud provider globally, to the extent that the company is now looking to reorganize its 60,000-strong sales force.
The report comes out The informationciting AWS sales head Matt Garman's plans for an overhaul, as well as people familiar with the matter and an internal document.
According to the report, Garman plans to consolidate teams that have developed conflicting sales strategies in an effort to streamline the company's approach.
AWS plans to change its sales force structure
Garman's intention is to reassess how AWS deploys its staff to help customers, amid seemingly increasing customer complaints about the service they receive.
While Amazon's cloud business continues to grow, recent months have shown that Amazon cannot sustain the same growth rates as its main rivals. The company's cloud revenue growth last quarter was not far from half of Google's, while Microsoft's growth was more than double that of Amazon.
The company's margins have also tightened recently as more spending goes into things like artificial intelligence, which has boomed in the past 12 months.
More broadly, Amazon has laid off more than 27,000 employees over the 2022-2023 period. Since then, it has announced thousands of job openings, including temporary and seasonal positions, to support its e-commerce business.
It is unclear whether the restructuring of AWS's sales force will result in job losses. Ny Breaking reached out to Amazon for confirmation, but we didn't immediately receive a response. Any updates will be posted here.
