Awkward NBA TV segment ends with retired star revealing co-host’s address live on air

There was an extremely awkward segment on NBA TV on Friday night when former basketball star Sam Mitchell was egged on by his on-air colleague who made a joke about his salary.

Mitchell was asked by host Chris Miles about Warriors coach Steve Kerr not receiving a gold medal for coaching the U.S. Olympic men’s team to glory last summer in Paris.

“I guess it just tells you that [in] International [play] how they appreciate coaches – not at all,” Mitchell laughed.

Miles then poked a bit of fun at Mitchell, a former head coach of the Raptors, saying, “I’m surprised coaches get paid for this show. Maybe you should do this pro bono, my friend.”

Clearly, Miles struck a nerve, as Mitchell said his salary was actually “pretty close” to pro-bono, before accusing Miles of “bragging” about his money and threatening to reveal the address of his home.

“I’m sorry, did you rent out your beach house in Florida during the hurricane?… What about your townhouse in Buckhead, [Georgia]?’

Miles reacted in disbelief, but Mitchell continued, accusing him of shouting at him and “screaming like crazy and hungrily.”

“I know what you got and where you live young man, so you gotta stop,” he continued.

Miles, still with a sheepish grin on his face, accused Mitchell of being a “traitor” before Mitchell said he was in fact a “truth teller.”

“You need to stop bullying me on national television,” he continued. ‘… Do I have to provide the address? Because you’re not home right now.’

After nearly 90 seconds of the bizarre interaction, Miles finally brought Mitchell onto another topic as they discussed the Blazers-Clippers preseason game being played in Seattle.

But they weren’t quite done yet. Minutes later, in another segment, Mitchell revealed Miles’ address in Destin, Florida.

“Have you installed the pool yet?” Mitchell asked.

Fans were obviously quite stunned by the incident as it spread online.

“Damn, that was personal!” someone said.

‘Don’t make fun of a man and his money. This probably [not] first time too,” another added.

“The young man asked for it,” a third added.

Mitchell played 13 years in the NBA, primarily with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he ended his career in the 2001-2002 season.

He averaged 8.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game over his career.

Mitchell, now 61, went on to serve as an assistant coach with the Bucks, Nets, Timberwolves and Grizzlies, which was his final coaching stint from 2018-19.

He was the head coach of the Raptors from 2004 to 2008 and also served as Minnesota’s interim head coach from 2015 to 2016.
