Awkward moment Sunrise hosts Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington and Monique Wright are left speechless over cringe Sydney Fringe Festival comedian

Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington and Monique Wright were stunned on Friday morning when they were confronted by a bizarre comedian live on television.

Weird Sal, the less attractive cousin of Weird Al Yankovic – best known for his comedy parody songs – appeared on Sunrise to serenade the anchors during a live cross to the Sydney Fringe Festival.

Although there were plenty of awkward laughs during Weird Sal’s song Where Dreams Are Broken – a parody of Hilary Duff’s What Dreams Are Made Of – Matt, 45, and Monique, 50, were mostly speechless during the awkward performance.

The chilling exchange started when Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac introduced Weird Sal to viewers as Weird Al’s Australian cousin.

“Mr. Macaroni, I spent a lot of days writing parodies, and then my more attractive cousin took them all and ran with them,” Weird Sal said.

Monique let out an awkward chuckle as Matt seemed to cringe at the gravelly voice the young comedian put on as she donned a fake mustache and a poorly groomed wig that didn’t cover her real, long blonde locks.

Sam tried to keep the piece going as he asked, “Do I feel a little resentment towards Weird Al Yankovic?”

Weird Sal replied, “You know it comes and goes in waves. It happens in the usual way, day by day, and every few months with a restraining order.”

“I feel like you communicate best through songs,” Sam said before throwing himself into the weather.

But things only got more bizarre when Weird Sal started her parody with Where Dreams Are Broken – a variation on the Disney song What Dreams Are Made Of from the Lizzie McGuire film.

Weird Sal performed the song off-key with some awkward dance moves while making awkward eye contact with the camera.

During the rendition, Monique’s jaw dropped and Matt’s frown deepened as they were left speechless by the show, which abruptly stopped when the music cut off without warning.

‘That’s a taste of the action. I also like the abrupt end of the music,” Sam said as Weird Sal waved awkwardly at the camera.

‘I’m glad it was a taster. Better with a reaction from the audience, I think,” Shirvo said.

“I think I want Weird Sal to come before me at karaoke,” Monique added.

The pair then quickly moved on to other news, while their co-stars Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew fought back tears of laughter as they enjoyed the performance much more than their colleagues.
