Awkward moment Ray Meagher mysteriously goes missing from the Logie Awards during Sam Pang’s heartwarming tribute to the Home and Away star
The Logies Awards broadcast has become infamous over the years for its failed broadcasts.
And on Sunday, TV’s night of nights got another embarrassing snafu when a planned tribute to Home and Away’s Ray Meagher went horribly wrong.
The veteran actor, 79, who plays Alf Steward in the long-running Channel Seven soap, was involved backstage as presenter Sam Pang gave a moving speech dedicated to the beloved star.
Appears on Novas Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Monday, Meagher explained why he missed his own tribute.
He said it was because he did a photo call with the cast of Home and Away after the show took home the Logie for Best Drama.

Meagher said, “I was accused of all sorts of things when I wasn’t in the room when he said nice things.”
He added that he had come across Pang teasing Meagher ahead of the tribute, but the Summer Bay favorite said he paid no heed.
“I saw Sam (Pang) at the back after (his opening monologue) and I said, ‘oh buddy, you’re so good, you’re fine'” — and he said, “I might say something about you a little bit later” ‘.’
Meagher went on to explain that it was Home and Away actor James Stewart who saved the moment from disaster.
“We went in and did the press, and Jimmy Stewart ran down the hall yelling ‘Sam’s talking about you, Sam’s talking about you, come in!”
In typical Pang style, he glanced at Meagher as the star re-entered the room.

‘Ray! You missed it, I gave you a wonderful tribute. You missed that,’ he said.
“I congratulated you on your 35 years, and I went on to say that you probably won’t be serving out your new contract. You’re aware!’
Meagher, who announced he would continue playing Alf for another five years in January, has been a regular on Home and Away since its debut in 1988.
This year he was nominated for the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor, but lost out to veteran star Sam Neill.
