Awkward moment Princess Leonor of Spain is ignored several times as guests shake her parents’ hands

This is the awkward moment when Princess Leonor of Spain appeared to be ignored by several dignitaries at a reception for Spain’s National Day on Saturday.

The Spanish royal, 18, heir to the throne, looked elegant in her military attire as she attended the ceremony in Madrid.

But as aides enthusiastically shook hands with her parents, Queen Letizia and King Felipe, their eldest daughter appeared belittled.

In an awkward video filmed at the reception, Leonor can be seen extending her hand, expectantly waiting for a handshake.

But after shaking the queen’s hand, she thought her job was done, and a woman wearing a patterned maxi dress walked right past her.

A few moments after the first incident, in her rapture after talking to the queen, another was so distracted that she also bypassed Leonor before turning to greet her.

A moment later, in her rapture after a conversation with the queen, another was so distracted that she also bypassed Leonor before turning to greet her.

Fortunately, the princess saw the funny side of the situation and looked amused on both occasions.

Princess Leonor is currently undergoing three years of military service in the Navy and attended the event in her military attire.

Columbus Day is celebrated every year in Spain on October 12. The festivities include a military parade attended by the royal couple, who joined other authorities in the Plaza de Neptuno and attended the event together, before then presiding over the creation of the Spanish national flag.

Queen Letizia of Spain didn’t let the rain dampen her style as she stepped out for the public appearance in Madrid.

The 52-year-old royal was joined by her husband King Felipe, 56, as she presided over the National Day military parade, known in Spain as Dia de la Hispanidad.

Unfortunately, the weather was not ideal: the autumn event brought gray skies and drizzle.

But this didn’t stop Letizia from looking typically stylish as she paired her classic beige belted mac with a red dress, matching pointy pumps with kitten heels and a clutch in the same shade.

Some photos show the mother of two holding a large navy blue umbrella to keep the rain off her ensemble as she walked to the engagement.

And while it is always attended by a slew of high-profile guests, most eyes are often on Queen Letizia, as eager royal watchers are eager to see her style and observe her royal presence.

The daytime event, which calls on female guests to wear a dress and men to put on a suit, always attracts an elegant crowd.

And Letizia didn’t disappoint, teaming her practical yet stylish look with statement accessories in a flattering shade of scarlet.

As she often does, the mother of two wore her thick auburn locks down, allowing her glossy tresses to fall past her shoulders.

And she let her natural beauty shine through by wearing a fresh makeup look, which showed off her glowing skin tone and made her brown eyes the focal point, with soft, smoky brown liner and shadow.

Peach blush brought out the best of her striking high cheekbones, while her lips looked elegant yet subtle in a flattering, slightly pearly dark nude-style shade.

The military air and land parade is attended by various security, civil protection and emergency services, as well as units of the army, navy, civil guard, emergency military, royal guard and state security forces and corps.

Meanwhile, her husband Felipe looked equally dapper, wearing a dress uniform for the annual event.

However, according to Spanish media reports, they were not joined by their daughter Infanta Sofia, 17, who is currently studying for her two-year International Baccalaureate diploma at a boarding school in Wales.

She began studying at UWC Atlantic College, located in a 12th-century castle in South Wales, in September 2023.
