Awkward moment nervous groom mixes up his wedding vows and tells his bride: ‘I will laugh at you when you’re sad’
A groom whose nerves got the better of him at the altar accidentally mixed up his wedding vows in a hilarious blunder.
Robert Thomson, 36, planned to comfort his bride Amy, 33, telling her he would be there to “comfort you when you are sad.”
But while mixing up the wedding vows, Robert accidentally mixed up two lines – and ended up telling her, “I’ll laugh at you when you’re sad.”
In a clip of the comic confusion, the bride and groom both fell apart laughing when Amy saw the funny side of Robert’s blunder.
The funny moment was captured as the couple stood at the altar at their wedding venue in Hadleigh, Essex, in April 2023.

In the clip, Robert and Amy stand at the altar as their celebrant reads the vows for Robert to repeat.
He says, “I call upon those here present to bear witness that I, Robert James Thompson, take you Amy Susan Sheila Jacqueline Aldon to be my lawfully wedded wife.”
Robert gets a laugh from the guests, and from Amy herself, as he repeats Amy’s five names and smiles.
The couple married in April 2023 in a ceremony in Hadleigh, Essex, in front of their family and friends.
Luckily, Amy saw the funny side of her husband’s blunder and the couple are now about to celebrate their first anniversary
He then continues, “As I consider you my wife, I promise to love, honor and respect you.”
As Robert repeats this phrase, he becomes visibly emotional and appears choked, but the nervous groom manages to continue. after taking a deep breath.
He says, ‘I will support you and be true to your will.
“I will take care of you, laugh at you when you are happy, laugh at you when you are sad.”
At this point the wedding party erupts into laughter as Robert realizes his blunder – before placing his hand on his wife’s shoulder before correcting himself.
As the wedding party continues to giggle, Robert almost succeeds in keeping the vows.
As the couple approaches their first anniversary, they reflect on the “beautiful” wedding ceremony they shared – despite the jumbled vows.
Robert, who works in construction, said: ‘It was such a beautiful day. I was full of nerves, which caused me to stumble over my vows.
‘I waited almost 45 minutes for Amy because she was late – which made me even more nervous!
‘I saw the funny side of it. It’s a moment that no one can forget or experience – and our family and friends certainly saw the funny side of it too!’
Meanwhile, Amy joked: ‘It was like a Carry On film! I don’t think he realized it until the response. We will never forget it.’
