Awkward moment Karl Stefanovic asks Allison Langdon where’s she been for the last week

Allison Langdon was back on the Today show on Monday.

And her week-long absence seemed a bit mysterious, with her co-host Karl Stefanovic giving Allison the third degree.

‘We missed you. How was the filming?’ the 48-year-old asked, and Allison screwed up her answer.

She mentioned both filming and spending time with her kids, making it unclear which of the two she had taken a week off for.

‘The filming went well. It went well and the kids were good. I’ve got them back in line,” the TV star replied.

“I thought you were filming?” Karl fired back and Allison quickly said, “I was filming for 60 minutes.”

“I thought you were filming with the kids,” Karl continued.

‘I had forgotten how difficult it can be. It’s great to be back,” Allison joked, before abruptly changing the subject.

“Tim and I are dressing couples!” she said, referring to Today’s weatherman Tim Davies, before moving on to the next segment.

The mysterious absence comes after Allison emerged as the favorite in Channel Nine’s hunt for a new host for A Current Affair.

The Today host’s ‘terrible’ hydrofoil accident may have played a role in her plum position.

The job could be some kind of consolation prize, a new report in The Daily Telegraph Sunday claimed.

“Nine may be inclined to mitigate any future compensation payments to Langdon by giving her ACA,” the paper claimed.

Last year, Allison revealed she is still in pain for nearly four months after severely injuring her leg in a hydrofoil accident.

The Nine presenter, 43, spoke of her ‘terrible’ injuries on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa at the time.

When asked how her knee felt now, she said, “It’s okay, it still hurts a lot.”

She added: “I broke the leg, I did the kneecap, I did the ligaments. I broke the kneecap, broke the leg, did the PCL, the meniscus… Broke the tibia.’

“It was pretty horrendous,” she added, noting that her knee had hit the hydrofoil when she fell during the watersports segment.

Allison then joked that the worst part of the accident – which happened during the filming of the Today show on the Gold Coast on February 4, 2021 – was that she couldn’t win the race against her co-host Karl Stefanovic.

Allison revealed that she recently saw her doctor, who told her she was still in the recovery process.

She wouldn’t fully recover until 12 months, she said.

After the accident in February, Allison was flown from the Gold Coast to Sydney where she underwent knee surgery.

She had regular sessions with a physical therapist and her husband, media manager Michael Willesee Jr., had taken care of her.

Last week, after much speculation, TV sources said Langdon – who served as co-host of Today for two years – is now the likely replacement for Tracy Grimshaw who recently marked her retirement after 17 years.

Clearly Nine is ready to finally announce the hosting change that comes after weeks of on-air trials and speculation about the ACA role widely regarded as one of the best jobs in Australian broadcasting.

Among those also being considered is Nine News political reporter Chris O’Keefe, who hosted a pilot episode in October.

However, Langdon remains the favourite, despite the fact that her departure would open the co-host role of Today – a show that continues to struggle in its ongoing battle against the all-conquering Sunrise.

For ACA, it will be the first new host since Tracy Grimshaw came in for Ray Martin in 2006. Grimshaw retired from ACA in September.

Langdon could add her name to an illustrious list of titans like Martin, Mike Munro and Jana Wendt.

Interestingly, Langdon’s husband Mike Willesee Jr is the son of the late former ACA great Mike Willesee who hosted the program’s first three seasons and five more later.

Famously one of the highest-paid gigs on Australian TV — Grimshaw’s take-home reportedly grew to $700,000 a year by the time of her retirement — the ACA hosting gig is also coveted for its relatively short workweek.
