Martin Brundle has again misidentified Patrick Mahomes as the F1 commentator thought the Dolphins’ Jaelan Phillips would be the Chiefs’ quarterback on Sunday.
Two years ago, Brundle hilariously called current Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero (who had yet to be drafted) as “Patrick” before realizing he had misidentified the basketball player.
And something similar happened before Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix, when Brundle was fooled during his famous grid walk.
While looking for the Kansas City star, he said, ‘That’s Patrick Mahomes, isn’t it?’
Mahomes is indeed present, although Brundle was not looking at him during the humorous scene, but rather at Phillips.
Martin Brundle thought Patrick Mahomes had passed him during his grid walk on Sunday
Brundle was actually watching Jaelan Phillips, a linebacker for the hometown Miami Dolphins
The blunder comes two years after Brundle thought he was talking to Mahomes when he was actually talking to Banchero.
“It’s not Patrick, that’s why he ignored me,” a bewildered Brundle told a Sky Sports camera following him in the crowd next to the race track.
“What’s your name, sir?” he then asked, before apologizing, “Well, I thought I was talking to someone else, I’m sorry about that.”
Brundle previously mistook NBA star Paolo Banchero for Mahomes during the 2022 Miami race
Patrick Mahomes may be present at the Miami Grand Prix this year, but he did not pass Brundle
Banchero made good fun of the incident, writing afterward on X, “I’m just shaking right now, man.”
Mahomes thought it was funny too, writing, “There’s no way bro,” followed by four laughing emojis.”
Banchero couldn’t make it to Miami this year because his Magic squad had to play a first-round Game 7 at the Cavs that ended in a victory in Cleveland.
Meanwhile, Mahomes’ Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce was also seen at the race.
