The world’s sixth-richest man, Bill Gates, has been questioned about his connection to billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein in an awkward interview while visiting Australia.
The philanthropist, who has donated billions to charity, is in the country talking about global issues like climate change and artificial intelligence.
Appearing on ABC’s 7:30 show on Monday night, host Sarah Ferguson told Gates: “One of the issues that has dogged you is your relationship with Epstein.”
‘Do you regret the relationship you had with him against (ex-wife) Melinda’s advice and wishes?’ she asked.
Software pioneer Bill Gates was questioned in an interview Monday night about his ties to dead billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
His ex-wife Melinda Gates (pictured together) had reportedly taken an immediate dislike to Epstein and warned Bill to stay away from him.
A somewhat bewildered Gates responded, “You’re going back… but I’ll say for the hundredth time that, yeah, I shouldn’t have had dinner with him.”
According to the New York Times, Gates has met Epstein numerous times since 2011.
Three years earlier, Epstein had pleaded guilty to soliciting an underage girl in Florida, and allegations that he exploited dozens more girls and young women were widely reported in the press.
In September 2013, Bill and his then-wife Melinda Gates met Epstein at his Upper East Side mansion in New York and he was immediately taken aback, The Daily Beast reported.
She then told her friends that he made her uncomfortable and warned her husband to stay away from him.
In the Monday night interview, Ferguson continued to press the issue, saying, “Epstein had a way of sexually compromising people, is that what Melinda was warning you about?”
Ferguson (pictured) pushed the issue despite Gates saying that she “came back a lot” and that he had already answered those questions.
Epstein (left) was found dead in his jail cell in 2019 after being arrested on child sex trafficking charges. His partner Ghislaine Maxwell (right) is serving a 20-year prison sentence for child sex trafficking and other charges.
‘Not. I had dinner with him and that’s it,” Gates replied.
—And that you regret the acquittal?
“That I had dinner with him, yes.”
Ferguson then asked if he regretted any ties between Epstein and his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the vehicle through which he conducts his philanthropic efforts.
“There was never any relationship of any kind,” he replied.
The couple’s relationship appears to have fizzled out in 2014, with the New York Times noting that Epstein had complained to friends at the time that Gates stopped speaking to him.
