Australia’s record-breaking all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was left in stunned silence on Tuesday night after a hilarious comment from Adam Gilchrist during a live Big Bash broadcast.
Maxwell missed Australia’s match against England in the World Cup due to a bizarre injury that left him with a concussion, reportedly the result of a golf cart accident – and Gilchrist couldn’t help but make a joke.
On Tuesday night, ‘The Big Show’ joined Gilchrist and former England skipper Michael Vaughan on commentary during the Adelaide Strikers’ match against the Hobart Hurricanes.
It was business as usual until the subject turned to English cricketer Laurie Evans, who reportedly had a +2 golf handicap.
“You could be his caddy, Maxi. You’re fine with golf carts, aren’t you?’ Gilchrist joked.

Vaughan burst out laughing while Maxwell sat shocked and angry at the comment.
Gilchrist apologized to the all-rounder for the joke as a stony-faced Maxwell eventually lightened up and replied.
“There wasn’t even a golf cart involved,” he said.
Maxwell then added, “The next play was good.”
The next match Maxwell referred to was the match against Afghanistan, in which he smashed 201 off 128 balls to help Australia chase 291.
In one of the greatest ODI innings of all time, Maxwell hit 21 fours and 10 sixes while scoring 68.6 percent of Australia’s runs, despite suffering from severe cramps that made it almost impossible for him to run between wickets .
Maxwell’s innings was immediately rated among the greats, with Ricky Ponting commentating that he had never seen anything like it.
Sachin Tendulkar also called it the best ODI innings he had ever seen, as did Gilchrist and former England captain Michael Vaughan.

Maxwell himself said he still needed time to let his performance sink in before he could assess where it ended up.
“After the first two (World Cup) games, we were almost written off by most people,” Maxwell said.
‘To be able to string six wins together at the right time… to be in the semi-finals is a great feeling and hopefully we enjoy a few days in Pune.
“I stay away from the golf carts.”
