Award-winning Dave sitcom returns with TV favourite couple for a FIFTH season
The stars and creators of one of Dave’s most popular sitcoms have revealed that the show is returning for a fifth season.
Even though the fourth series has yet to air, it has been confirmed that the channel has already re-ordered the comedy for another outing after it was named Best Comedy at the 2022 Broadcast Digital Awards.
Meet The Richardsons stars a real-life couple, Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont, who play a fictionalized version of themselves in the mockumentary series.
Speaking to The Sun Lucy said: ‘Yes, we have another series commissioned. The idea for the next series is that we want to do a sitcom and have it be a bit like Heartbeat with gags, but since Jon wants to retire early, he wants to win an award.”
“So he wants the sitcom to be more surreal and abstract.”

“So we each go and come up with ideas for our own sitcom, then we take it to a focus group and we have to get back together.”
The fourth series, which airs on the Freeview channel from April 5, sees the couple move house and features guest stars including Ben Elton and Adrian Chiles.
The show first launched on the channel in 2020 and the pair co-wrote it with Peter Kay’s Car Share writer Tim Reid.
It comes after Countdown’s Rachel Riley confessed to peeing in the shower during a lie detector challenge with her husband Pasha Kovalev on Jon and Lucy’s new show Odd Couples.
The panel show is hosted by the couple and sees the couple take on two celebrity couples, sending them on a retreat to choose who has the better relationship.
In the first episode, Rachel and Pasha take on Richard Herring and Catie Wilkins and face a variety of challenges that could lead to arguments, including a lie detector test.
During the lie detector test, Rachel made her confession when Pasha asks her if she pees in the shower and she replies ‘yes I do’, laughing.
Back in the studio, host Lucy asked Pasha if he minded his wife ‘fucking’ in the shower and he replied, laughing: ‘Not at all! It’s fun!’

“Although we do have celebrity couples on the show, they are universal themes and you don’t even need to be in a relationship to relate to them. Some of the things we talk about apply to families, it’s about human interactions.
“Jon’s done themed panels and stuff like that, and it felt really good to do something a little silly and light entertainment.”
Jon explained that the idea behind the show is to put celebrity couples in tense situations.
These include packing for a vacation, loading the dishwasher, and snoring, all of which he can relate to.
He added that the show shows the more real side of relationships, as couples fight.
Jon and Lucy, who have been married since 2015, will be doing their second job as co-hosts on the series.
They previously hosted ‘Jon and Lucy’s Party of the Year’ on Channel 4 where they ate, drank and had fun with other celebrities.
