Avril Lavigne is joined by Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun while attending the unveiling of her star

Avril Lavigne beamed with pride as she attended the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday afternoon.

The 37-year-old rocker appeared to be making the most of her time at the event, during which she posed for several photos on and around her new star.

The Complicated singer was also joined by several other figures from the music industry, including her collaborator Machine Gun Kelly, Joel Madden and her fiancé Mod Sun.

Lavigne wore a green-and-pink plaid pantsuit while appearing at the star’s unveiling. 

The Sk8er Boi singer later donned a hoodie with a graphic print that read: ‘Skateboarding is not a crime.’

She also brought a photo that had been taken of her some years prior, which showed her wearing the same hoodie and laying on one of the stars on the Walk of Fame.

According to Metro, the hitmaker put on the sweater ‘for good luck and good vibes.’ 

She added a bit of darkness to her look with a pair of sizable leather shoes during the event.

Lavigne later changed into a pair of multicolored sneakers as she posed with a custom-made skateboard.

Her blonde-and-orange hair remained free-flowing and fell onto her shoulders and chest.

Lavigne addressed the crowd that had assembled for the event, and she made a point of stating: ‘This is probably one of the coolest days of my life.’ 

The songwriter also spoke about her past experiences on the Walk of Fame. 

‘I can remember seeing these legendary names and I never could have imagined that mine would be here,’ she recalled.

The hitmaker discussed the state of her career, and stated that ‘I love making music more than ever, I feel so inspired.’

Lavigne expressed that she wanted to serve as an inspiration to other prospective artists.

She stated: ‘I hope that the next 16-year-old from their small town who comes to Hollywood one day full of hopes and dreams sees this star and thinks to themselves, “oh my God, my name could be there one day too.”‘

The performer went on to offer a bit of advice to any musicians looking to achieve success. 

‘Follow your dreams, live your passion, express yourself, be real, work hard, keep your head up, believe in yourself,’ she said.

Lavigne then expressed that she was ‘so grateful — to party with you all after.’

The performer concluded her speech by stating: ‘What an amazing 20 years and I can’t wait for the next 20.’ 

Machine Gun Kelly also addressed both the crowd and the singer during the event. 

The 32-year-old rapper-turned-rocker told Lavigne that she was ‘with me all the times I got my heart broken, your music was in my head.’

The rapper went on to speak about the hitmaker’s long-lasting influence on pop culture. 

‘You were an inspiration to a generation of kids like myself who wore baggy jeans and skated, and didn’t fit into MTV’s version of what the girls wanted,’ she said.

Machine Gun Kelly then spoke about how one song in particular served as an anthem for part of his generation. 

He said: ‘When you made Sk8er Boi, that was the hope that we hung on like, “Oh hell, yeah, we can stay the way we are, there’s someone out there looking for us.”‘

The performer said of Lavigne: ‘You are so far beyond any label that anyone could put on you…you’re so important.’

He concluded by stating: ‘Your songs will live far past any of our lifetimes so…congratulations on being Avril Lavigne.’ 

The singer’s most recently released album, entitled Love Sux, which made its debut this past February.

Prior to the debut of her newest record, Lavigne had not released an album since 2019.

The singer previously began working on the songs from her new record in 2020 and completed her work in the studio last February.

An official announcement about the now-released album occurred this past January, when its title was revealed.

The performer collaborated with performers such as Blackbear, Omer Fedi and Marshmello during the recording process.

Both Travis Barker and Mod Sun served as two of the record’s producers.

The first single from Love Sux, entitled Bite Me, was initially released to the public last November.

The album’s second single, Love It When You Hate Me, made its debut in January.

Love Sux, which consisted of 13 songs, largely saw Lavigne returning to her pop-punk roots.

The performer spoke about playing within her old genre during an interview with USA Today and stated that she was happy to return to the style.

‘I didn’t really overthink anything. I got together with people who understood me in this genre and we complemented each other so well.’ 

Lavigne discussed how she was impressed when she began collaborating with Machine Gun Kelly, who is also featured on the record. 

She recalled: ‘He came in the studio with his guitar and started playing his concept for the song and I was like, “This guy writes his [stuff] and he’s really focused and serious.”‘

The performer went on to speak about the album’s name and spoke about the inspirations behind the title. 

‘I love the album title. It’s like how a lot of people feel. Love is hard. Love is a lot of work. And sometimes it just doesn’t end well,’ she said.

Lavigne then expressed gratitude for the ongoing support of her fans and listeners. 

‘I’m really grateful to be doing my thing and making music and I’m blessed to have the fan base that I have. They’re so supportive,’ she stated. 

Love Sux received much praise from critics upon its release, with many commending the singer’s return to pop-punk.

The album also fared well on the charts, and peaked at the number nine spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
