20th Century Studios’ blockbuster sequel Avatar: The Way of Water continues to dominate the box office, with another big win for the fifth consecutive weekend.

The highly anticipated sequel earned an estimated $31.1 million in three days and an estimated $38.5 million in a four-day holiday weekend, via Deadline.

The sequel has now grossed $570.3 million domestically, the second-highest-grossing film of 2022 behind only Top Gun: Maverick ($718.7 million).

Avatar: The Way of Water has also crossed the global threshold of $1.9 billion, with the $2 billion mark just around the corner.

Universal’s Knock at the Cabin, in theaters February 3, is expected to be the first film to knock Avatar: The Way of Water out of the top spot at the box office.

The fifth-weekend box for Avatar: The Way of Water is the third-best of all time, behind only American Sniper ($64.6 million) and the first Avatar ($42.7 million).

The film played in 3,605 theaters for a decent average of $5,886 per screen for its second frame.

M3gan has now earned $59.7 million at the domestic box office with $93.9 million worldwide, with the movie, budgeted at $12 million, likely to top $100 million worldwide next week.

Rounding out the top 5 was the new action thriller Plane, which took off in fifth place with $11.6 million in 3,023 theaters for a paltry $3,837 per screen average.

Otto’s Expansion: A Man Called Otto expanded to over 3,100 more theaters but still held in fourth place with $14.9 million averaging $3,939 per screen and $21.2 million domestic.

The House Party remake opened in sixth place with $4.4 million, opening in 1,400 theaters with a low average of $3,153 per screen.

Rounding out the top 10 were Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in seventh with $2.6 million ($449.5 domestic), The Whale in eighth with $1.8 million ($11 million domestic, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody in ninth place with $1.3 million ($22 million domestic and Waltair Veerayya in tenth place with $1.2 million.

Next weekend brings the thriller Missing to theaters as the only new film in general release.
