Austrian star player Marcel Sabitzer was hit by an object thrown at Turkish fans during their round of 16 defeat at Euro 2024.

Sabitzer had previously had plastic cups thrown at him when he tried to take a corner, as Austria fought back after Turkey went 2-0 up in Leipzig.

The midfielder appeared to have been hit by an object as he returned to take another free-kick.

Sabitzer fell to the ground briefly and grabbed his head, while the Turkish players appeared to be calling on their supporters not to throw objects.

The Austrian star pointed out the object to the race officials, who then had a staff member take it away.

Sabitzer wasn’t the only player targeted by objects as he attempted to capitalize on set pieces during the match.

Austrian supporters also threw plastic cups at Turkish star player Arda Guler during the second half.

Guler, the 19-year-old Real Madrid player, turned to the Austria supporters and pointed to his head after Turkey doubled their lead from his corner kick.

Merih Demiral headed the ball powerfully into Guler’s corner to make it 2-0 in the 59th minute.

The defender had put Turkey ahead in the Leipzig Arena in the first minute with another set-piece.
