Staffy sets an Australian record after giving birth to 22 puppies after three days of hard work

A guide dog has broken a record for the largest litter in Australia.
Perth Staffy, named Honey, gave birth to 22 puppies in 25 hours on Monday and Tuesday after three days of hard work, just two puppies short of the world record.
Her owner, Jayden Cousins, said during the delivery that he thought Honey was done with 11 puppies, but many more were to come.

‘We hadn’t given birth in about two hours. We had a short break, had a drink, went upstairs and there was another puppy,” he said 7 News.
“We thought it had stopped and they just kept coming and coming. We were still having puppies around 4am.”
The world record is held by a much larger Neapolitan Mastiff named Tia, who gave birth to 24 puppies in 2004.
Mr Cousins said it is still a mystery who is the father of Honey’s litter with Staffy Boston and Rottweiler Buzz fighting for the title.
But vets say both could be responsible.
“We have been told by the vets that you can have several litters within one pregnancy,” said Mr Cousins.

Honey is in good health after birth, but as usual with large litters not all puppies made it.
Mr. Cousins hopes the remaining puppies will become service dogs, just like their mother.
The world record for the largest litter is held by a much larger Neapolitan mastiff, who gave birth to 24 puppies by caesarean section in 2004.
