An Australian couple is fighting for their lives after falling off a cliff late at night at a coastal tourist attraction in Croatia.

A man, 34, underwent emergency surgery and his female companion, 26, is in critical condition in intensive care following the incident at a medieval clifftop fortress in Pile, near Dubrovnik.

The accident happened at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning when the couple leaned against a wall and fell five feet.

Witnesses told local police that the incident happened when one of the two was leaning against the other.

Dubrovnik-Neretva police claimed that the couple was drunk at the time, with both returning high blood alcohol levels. The Weekend Australia reported.

The woman’s value was 0.3, while the man’s was 0.21.

The area is popular with tourists, who flock to Fort Lovrijenac, where Game of Thrones was filmed.
