Australian women reveal how much they expect their boyfriends to pay an engagement ring – shocking the world
A group of young Australian women shared how much money they expect from their partners for an engagement ring.
Men’s lifestyle website Man of Many took to the streets to ask several women the question — and their dazzling answers shocked thousands.
The majority of women said they expect their partner to spend as much as $8,000, while others expect a quarter of their salary to go towards a ring. The most common answer was $10,000.
A video on TikTok quickly caught the attention of more than 1.4 million people who weighed the comments.
In the clip, a woman wasn’t too sure how to answer the question, but then revealed she expects “a quarter of his annual salary will be spent — or about $20,000.” Another woman told her boyfriend that ideally she would like the ring to be worth between $8,000 and $10,000.

Another woman told her boyfriend that ideally she would like the ring to be worth between $8,000 and $10,000.
“He was literally relieved because he thought I was going to say about $20,000,” she said.
A third do not know exactly what the perfect price range is, but would prefer a ‘nice ring with a real diamond’.
A British woman was asked the lingering question and she said ideally around £5,000 ($10,000AUD).
“Of course I’m expecting too much from my boyfriend…maybe $9,000,” said another.

However, the reactions caused an uproar and opinions were divided.
“Three months salary is the norm,” one woman wrote in the comments to the video.
‘I’d say $3,000. $10-20,000 is insane,” said another.
“I’d rather we spend the money on a vacation together and just buy a nice, simple ring,” added another.
One woman didn’t want her partner to spend that much money and wrote, “If he spends more than a thousand dollars, I get mad.”
What if it was $60? Because they were my partners’, another asked in reply and she said: ‘Even better!’
But given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis sweeping the country, others say spending extravagant sums on engagement rings is “obsolete.”
“This is so absurd in 2023. Wouldn’t you prefer your partners’ money to go into your shared life instead of a blood diamond?” wrote one.
“I definitely don’t give a ring to a girl who expects a certain value. Married twenty years, the ring cost $500 when we both made six figures,” said another.
