Mum’s grim discovery after leaving a small puddle of water in her coffee machine for four days: ‘This is a warning to everyone’

  • An Australian mother made a shocking discovery in her coffee machine
  • Found worms in the machine after leaving it for a trip.
  • She has warned other coffee machine owners about the danger.

An Australian mum has issued a stern warning to all coffee machine owners after she made a “disgusting” discovery following a trip.

The Sydney woman went on a four-day holiday with her family and forgot to empty the drip tray of the coffee machine before leaving.

He was surprised to find worms in the water and in the crevices of the machine when he returned, and he still can’t get rid of them.

Worms are the larvae of winged insects, most commonly flies. An infestation can cause serious health problems, such as salmonella, E. coli, myiasis, and intestinal and oral problems.

“This is so gross,” the mom said when she shared her warning with a popular Facebook cleanup group.

Worms are the larvae of winged insects, most commonly flies. An infestation can cause serious health problems, including salmonella, E. coli, myiasis, and intestinal and oral problems.

‘We didn’t empty the coffee pot drip tray before we left for 4 days. Upon returning, there were worms in the water.

The horrified mother said that despite her best attempts to clean the machine, there are still worms squirming in hard-to-reach places under the drip tray.

“I emptied the drip tray and it’s in the dishwasher, but I can see a worm (and I’m sure there are more) in places I can’t get to,” she said.

Many people advised the mother to deep clean her machine, while others thought the worms would turn into flies and go away on their own.

She asked cleaning enthusiasts what is the best thing to do.

‘What I can do? I’m so grossed out. It’s not a cheap machine, so I don’t want to throw it away,” he said.

Surprisingly, many people took the situation in stride and recommended doing nothing and letting the worms turn into flies and fly away.

“As gross as it is, wait until they turn into flies and they’ll crawl out,” said one woman.

‘I wouldn’t worry to be honest. Rinse some of the hot water before drinking it, but the worms would only be in and around the pan of dirty water. In a day or two, the larvae you haven’t found yet will have died or turned into flies anyway,” wrote another.

Are worms dangerous?

* Worms are the larvae of winged insects, most commonly flies.

* Flies lay their eggs on decaying matter and the eggs hatch into larvae in 2 hours

* Accidentally ingesting worm-infested food or water can cause serious health problems

* Flies are carriers of bacteria and can transmit them to the surface where they deposit their larvae

* A worm infestation can cause salmonella, E. coli, myiasis, and intestinal and oral problems.

Several people recommended regularly cleaning the machine and drip tray, and giving the machine a deep clean.

‘You’ll be fine. Get a descaling solution through it. Running boiling water will 100 percent kill all bacteria,” said one woman.

Another person said they would take the machine apart to remove the worms themselves or have it professionally repaired.

Many people shared their own horror stories.

“I went to change the filter on my coffee machine and opened the back compartment to find a floating roach. So we had been drinking cockroach juice in our cafe for God knows how long! said a woman.

“I had a worm in the little viewing window of my bread maker for 20 years until it died (the machine that it is!),” wrote another.
