Australian tourist fights for life in Bali: Perth man Artemiy ‘Toma’ Stakhanov put in coma

An Australian tourist is fighting for his life after collapsing in front of his Bali hotel.
Artemiy ‘Toma’ Stakhanov, 26, is currently being treated in intensive care after collapsing outside his hotel in Kuta on Thursday.
He was only in Bali for two weeks before he was put into an induced coma.
Mr Stakhanov was taken to hospital with symptoms including respiratory distress, low glucose and high blood potassium levels.
His distraught mother Svetlana Coulson and his friend Leilani Reid, 25, have flown to the holiday island to be with their loved one.

“He’s improved phenomenally since we got here, from when I flew in on Thursday to today,” Ms Reid said. PerthNow.
“They plan to start the daily process of getting him off sedation and ventilator support.”
“He is no longer short of breath. The internal bleeding is no longer visible.
“Hopefully the recovery will happen sooner than what they tell us… if we can get him into the care of Australia that would be great.”
Ms Reid revealed that medical costs were already piling up and the family owed $37,000 for his treatment.
a GoFundMe page has launched, with over $6,500 raised to date.

Ms Reid spoke of the significant medical costs and expenses involved in getting Mr Stakhanov back to Australia.
“We were fortunate to find a transport service at a significantly cheaper rate at $65,000 and plan to fly him home on Thursday,” Ms Reid wrote in an update to the page.
“The cost of hospital bills continues to rise daily and we expect more spending once back in Australia.”
Mr. Stakhanov, who lives in Morley, a suburb of Perth, is a big part of the dance and music community.
