Former Australian Davis Cup coach Wally Masur says he’s impressed with the changes he’s seeing in tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios, stating that his new outlook on life has him ready to finally realize his potential.

Kyrgios, 27, met Costeen Hatzi last December, with the beloved couple quickly becoming an A-list couple.

They announced their engagement in May, and an “obsessed” Kyrgios plans to marry the 22-year-old influencer and start a family next year.

A steady life off the court has seen Kyrgios produce the best tennis of his career, with the Canberra-born entertainer a Wimbledon finalist in July.

He is now 21st in the world and Masur is delighted that Kyrgios’ talent is not lost.

Speaking at the launch of the 2023 Australian Open, the former Davis Cup coach revealed that Kyrgios often takes the time to help emerging stars when not traveling the world playing tournaments.

“Nick lives in Sydney and two days later (after the Australian Open) he was on the court with a young Australian player James McCabe,” said Masur.

“He spends time with them, he talks to them about tennis, he encourages them, and he’s a really good mentor to many of these kids who are coming through.”

Grand Slam winner status – in doubles – has also fueled Krygios’ appetite for the sport.

Masur praised Kyrgios after he won the Australian Open doubles title with good mate Thanasi Kokkinakis.

“I said to Nick, ‘mate, well done, you’re a grand slam champion,'” Masur added.

‘He said more or less sheepishly, ‘yes, it’s only double.’

“Winning that fueled his hunger for more. (After) Covid and a divorce before the tour, he kind of realized what he had been missing.

‘And boy, did he light it at Wimbledon. I was really encouraged by not only the result, but the way he played.

‘We saw all his abilities – the full repertoire was there.’
